Volunteer Spotlight: Ken DuBey
“I got to know a hospice volunteer when my mom had terminal cancer… He spoke about them with such gratitude and respect. That stayed with me.”
Through both personal experience and the example of others, Ken saw firsthand the impact that compassion, presence, and dignity can have during life’s most vulnerable moments. That experience led Ken to become a hospice volunteer — to offer that same support to others.
During visits, Ken enjoys getting to know each patient — learning about life experiences, sharing conversations, listening to music, or simply being present.
“It gives me a real sense of purpose… I feel connected to what truly matters in life.”
To anyone considering volunteering, Ken shares:
“Just jump in… you truly make a difference. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding.”
