Cerritos College Trustee Dr Sandra Salazar

Dr. Salazar is the daughter of a gardener and a domestic worker who instilled in her a commitment to community, family and faith at an early age. The first in her family to attend college, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in Massachusetts and a Doctorate of Medicine from Saint Louis University in Missouri. She further completed a yearlong research fellowship at Mayo Medical Clinic in Minnesota where she conducted cancer research and went on to complete her medical training at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. She is currently a family medicine physician providing culturally competent health care. Dr. Salazar understands the importance of access to higher education first hand and believes in the transformative power of educational opportunities. She was elected to the Cerritos Community College board in November 2012 and currently serves as board secretary. It is her vision that all students at Cerritos Community College have the same opportunities she was fortunate enough to receive. Dr. Salazar also strongly supports the evolving role of the community college system as the largest work force training provider in our State and key to the economic recovery of our region. Dr. Salazar is an active member of the Norwalk Lions club and participates in the education committee. She also serves as a public member of the California State Bar Examining Committee and was appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. Dr. Salazar is a founding board member of The Southern California Latino Policy Center and was named Democrat of the year 2013 AD 57.
