This Instagram story from a random influencer caught my attention recently. This narrative has to change. Please stop getting your wellness information from influencers, especially with zero background in wellness or healthcare. This is quite frankly a dangerous message, mentally and physically.
Spoiler alert: the answer is not to eat less. The answer is to eat MORE with a focus on whole, nutrient dense foods. Processed/fake foods are killing us, whether we’ve fasted for 16 hours or not.
So many patients are coming in with symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, poor digestion, anxiety/depression, trouble focusing, and poor sleep. Many of them are UNDER eating; skipping the first meal or two, surviving off of coffee, and trying to convince themselves that they’re not hungry.
This gives our cells nothing good to work with. No wonder we’re tired. No wonder our bellies hurt. No wonder our mental health is suffering.
A healthy digestive system is at the center of all other systems. If our gut is not strong, everything else is going to be impacted. We have to stop being afraid of food. Good food is medicine. Eat breakfast tomorrow, that’s the first step.
