We have a new Dr on our team, Dr. Emma! As of right now you can find her on Saturdays but soon you will see her as a full time staple. She's bringing bright and fun outfits and earrings and always a smile! Here's some things about her:
1. Why did you want to become a dentist?
Every 6 months from the time I was born, Dr. Fischer would ask me at my cleanings if I had decided to become a dentist yet. He finally wore me down :) But really, it's the patient care aspect. I had considered being a doctor, but wanted a job that was more focused on direct patient care. And seeing Dr. Fischer in action for a few shadowing days as a teenager, I knew that he was right about my career path!
2. Where did you attend school?
I went to Lyman memorial high school, then the University of Texas at Dallas for my bachelors and masters, then University of Connecticut for my DMD and PhD!
3. What’s your favorite part of your job?
Seeing the difference in patients with dental anxiety. I LOVE seeing patients grow comfortable in our office and get excited to see the results of our work. It's seriously the best thing. Every time we have an anxious patient leave with a smile, I am the happiest person in the world.
3b. What's your favorite dental procedure?
dead tie between root canals and extractions. They're both very fun.
4. What do you do in your free time?
I love to read! My kindle gets one heck of a workout. And then I also work out. We have a pool, so in the summer I spend most of my time either swimming or reading on a floatie.
5. What’s something you’d like people to know about you?
My main focus is making sure patients are comfortable. Everything else is secondary. I care most about people knowing that they have a voice and are being heard about their dental problems, questions, and concerns.
6. What color is your toothbrush?
I want to say blue? My waterpik is black and silver!
7. We know you have a wild clothing style, which I adore, what is your favorite piece?
I have three of the same dress in different prints/materials. They were a PhD graduation gift to myself! I love them so much. You'll see me wear them at the office- they're a summer staple!
8. What is one food you could eat for the rest of your life?
sushi.
9. What do you keep in your snack drawer? ( better get a lock for it now! Haha)
it is controversial: an industrial supply of coconut water (with pulp). I don't usually eat lunch so it keeps my electrolytes up!
10. Anything else you want to share?
Joining NFDA has been 3 decades in the making. It's so exciting to be finally joining Dr. Fischer, and I love working with all the staff at NFDA. Being able to do what I love while serving the community that I am a part of, is a dream come true.
