Celebrating Backus Hospital’s Incredible Achievements in 2025!

This year has been nothing short of amazing for Backus Hospital, and we’re proud to share some of the milestones that reflect our commitment to exceptional care and community partnership:

Opened a brand-new retail pharmacy inside the hospital, making it easier than ever for patients and visitors to access medications and health essentials.

Unveiled a state-of-the-art MRI building enhancing diagnostic capabilities and ensuring faster, more comfortable imaging experiences.

Opened a new hydroponic garden to grow fresh, nutritious foods for our patients and local outreach programs in our community.

Hosted a successful Medical Mission event bringing vital care and resources to those who need it most and reinforcing our dedication to health equity.

Strengthened relationships with community partners because together, we can build healthier communities and brighter futures.

Thank you to our incredible colleagues, partners, and community for making these achievements and many more possible.

Here’s to continuing our mission of care, compassion, and innovation in 2026 and beyond!

Feeling Grateful

As we reflect on what we’re thankful for this season, we want to take a moment to shine a light on the incredible team in our Special Care Nursery.

For families like Gabrielle Tudisca and Derek Brauer, who welcomed Steven Brauer at just 32 weeks, those first moments are a mix of hope, joy, and unexpected challenges. Knowing that there’s a dedicated team of compassionate professionals ready to provide specialized care for our tiniest patients is truly a blessing.

Their expertise, kindness, and unwavering commitment make all the difference—not just for the babies, but for the parents who can rest a little easier knowing their child is in the best hands possible.

To the nurses, doctors, and colleagues who go above and beyond every single day, thank you for being the heartbeat of hope for so many families.

This Thanksgiving, our healthcare heroes want to remind everyone that there’s so much to give thanks for.

Family. Friends. A safe ride home.

Before the celebration begins, make your plan:
1ļøāƒ£ Arrange a rideshare or taxi.
2ļøāƒ£ Choose a sober designated driver.
3ļøāƒ£ Stay the night if you’ve been drinking.

Because one impaired choice can change lives forever.
Let’s say Not One More to impaired driving.

Backus Hospital held a flag raising ceremony to honor all of our colleague veterans and their families this Veterans Day.

Aoife Gibson, a phlebotomist at Backus and member of the Hartford HealthCare Veterans Colleague Resource Group, handed out custom made HHC dog tags to all of the veterans in attendance as a thank you for their service.

We are proud to recognize all who have served in the armed forces, especially our colleagues who continue their service in caring for our patients and communities.

Thank you for all that you do.

Dr. Ammar Anbari and the orthopedics team just completed their 100th shoulder surgery using the Mako robot at Backus Hospital!

This cutting-edge technology uses a robotic arm to assist surgeons in performing joint replacements. It allows for greater precision, faster recovery, and improved range of motion — and we’re proud to be the first and only health system in the Northeast offering this game-changing procedure.
