Backus Hospital held a flag raising ceremony to honor all of our colleague veterans and their families this Veterans Day.

Aoife Gibson, a phlebotomist at Backus and member of the Hartford HealthCare Veterans Colleague Resource Group, handed out custom made HHC dog tags to all of the veterans in attendance as a thank you for their service.

We are proud to recognize all who have served in the armed forces, especially our colleagues who continue their service in caring for our patients and communities.

Today was our third annual Medical Mission in Norwich! Hundreds of volunteers came together to provide free medical services, health screenings, essential items, and support to those who need it most.

Dr. Ammar Anbari and the orthopedics team just completed their 100th shoulder surgery using the Mako robot at Backus Hospital!

This cutting-edge technology uses a robotic arm to assist surgeons in performing joint replacements. It allows for greater precision, faster recovery, and improved range of motion — and we’re proud to be the first and only health system in the Northeast offering this game-changing procedure.

Thank you to all of the sponsors, golfers and volunteers who helped make the 14th Annual Laura Beth Seder Memorial ‘Pink’ Golf Tournament such a success!

Your support helped raise $75,000 for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at Backus Hospital's Integrative Medicine program, which offers cost–free professional services such as massage therapy, reflexology, reiki, guided-imagery, and yoga for cancer patients at all stages of diagnosis and recovery.

We also honor our lactating colleagues by offering safe, private, and comfortable spaces for milk expression during the workday, because sustaining breastfeeding means supporting our workforce, too.
