We’re excited to welcome Brenda Portella, BSPH, to the HEC team as our new Program Manager. In her role, Brenda primarily works with the Youth Health Service Corps, serving as both coordinator and facilitator. She also collaborates with local schools, mainly middle and high schools, to help students gain insights into careers within the professional health field.

Before joining HEC, Brenda was a Resident Advisor at Southern Connecticut State University for two years, where she guided first-year students through their college transition. Her focus was on ensuring students' well-being and connecting them with valuable resources to help them thrive.

Brenda recently earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in Spanish. She is passionate about youth education and engagement and is committed to providing access to resources that empower young people. As she continues her journey in public health, Brenda aims to make a lasting impact on youth communities throughout Connecticut, with a particular interest in maternal and child health.

Stay safe and stay cool in this extreme heat advisory ☀️

SVdPP is a designated Cooling Center! Governor Ned Lamont announced that the Extreme Hot Weather Protocol is activated for today through Wednesday evening due to the heat.

This protocol ensures that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions. SVdPP is a cooling center; everyone is welcome to drop in to escape the heat. We will add another water station and prepare larger containers of ice water for anyone in need, especially unsheltered people. PLEASE remember to stay hydrated!
