Thank you to everyone who advocated on our behalf. 🩷
Earlier this week Governor Lamont signed into law Public Act 25-151. Beginning in the next biennium, nonprofit funding will increase with inflation every year during the state's budget process.
For two decades, The Alliance and its predecessor organizations have advocated for this policy. Thanks to Office of Governor Ned Lamont and a bipartisan group of legislative champions, in particular Senator Matt Lesser, Senator Cathy Osten and State Representative Jillian Gilchrest, it has finally become law.
It recognizes the importance of community nonprofit providers both as part of the social safety net and as part of the business community across Connecticut. It builds on the funding increases built into the biennial budget and the increases in recent budgets to keep nonprofit funding from falling further behind rising costs.
Nonprofit providers appreciate the support of the Governor and General Assembly in turning this idea into law. While it is no guarantee, as funding still must be approved in each budget, it will show the cost of maintaining nonprofit services each year. It can make a difference in the lives of thousands of Connecticut residents – people who work for or are served by community nonprofits.
