Tonight, after almost 9 months of staying safe at home, I stumbled across this page. I took some time to look through the old posts and images and it brought back bittersweet memories of teaching yoga in our sweet little Nottingham gym and attending classes with Amy, Stacey, and Kara.
We had just gotten into our Monday/Saturday routine and endured a winter in the new studio and classes were growing when we were suddenly shut down by the spread of the coronavirus.
I have been teaching online to a core group of students and a wide group of guests since early April using Google Hangouts, which is now Google Meet. This started out feeling a little awkward, but we have once again hit our groove.
Yoga teaches us through the Yamas that we would be wise to stay detached from outcomes, practicing aparigraha, or a non-hoarding. We often think of this in terms of possessions, but this last year has taught us nothing if it hasn't taught us contentment with what we have and detachment from what we have come to expect.
I surrender, I surrender Lord, I surrender.
If there is interest, I will take our yoga class to a more formal level of online teaching. Message me here or privately and I'll be happy to discuss what classes are like right now. Right now I feel called to serve the community through my love of both fitness and more specifically yoga and meditation during a year and a season where we are all feeling unsteady, uncertain, and needing grounding like never before.
Let me know if you would like to join on Saturday mornings at 9am. All you need is a mat and about a 5x7 foot space in your home to stretch out and get back in touch with your body. If you have blocks or pillows or a scarf/tie to use as a prop you are in great shape, but really all you need is the floor, some comfortable clothes and a desire to feel more present and calm, in your body, in your home, in our world.
Maybe this is a Revolution. Some day we all do want to find our way back to a studio: to sweat, to breathe the same air, to smell lavender and feel heat. But for now we will practice. We will surrender to what is possible.
