❓ FAQ: What Are the Top Flu Prevention Tips?

Flu season can be tougher for older adults, so taking simple preventative steps helps protect health and keep you feeling your best. Getting vaccinated each year is one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk and lessen severity if you do get sick. Regular hand hygiene, including washing with soap and using sanitizer, helps stop germs from spreading, and avoiding touching your face lowers infection risk.

Eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet supports your immune system, while quality sleep helps your body stay resilient and recover. Gentle, regular movement boosts circulation and overall wellbeing, and keeping distance from those who are unwell reduces exposure and supports a healthier environment for everyone.

Easy Red Wine Pot Roast

A rich, comforting one-pot classic that’s full of flavour and perfect for cozy nights in!

Ingredients:
🥩 3–4 lb beef chuck roast
🧂 Salt & black pepper
🫒 2 tbsp olive oil
🧅 1 large onion, sliced
🧄 4 cloves garlic, smashed
🥕 3 carrots, chunked
🥔 3–4 potatoes, chunked
🍅 2 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
🍷 1 cup dry red wine
🥣 2 cups beef broth
🌿 1 tsp dried thyme (or 2 sprigs fresh)
🌿 1 tsp dried rosemary (or 1 sprig fresh)
🍃 1–2 bay leaves

Instructions:
✅ Season & sear: Pat roast dry, season with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a large pot or Dutch oven and sear on all sides until browned.
✅ Remove and set aside.
✅ Build flavour: Add onion to the same pot and cook 2–3 minutes. Add garlic and tomato paste, stir for 30 seconds.
✅ Deglaze: Pour in red wine, scraping up the brown bits. Simmer 2–3 minutes.
✅ Braise: Add beef broth, herbs, bay leaves, carrots, potatoes, and return the roast to the pot. Liquid should come halfway up the meat.
✅ Cook low & slow:
• Oven: Cover and bake at 325°F (165°C) for 3–3.5 hours
• Stovetop: Simmer covered on low for 3 hours
• Slow cooker: 8 hours on low or 5 hours on high
