MCO is excited to announce the addition of Jefferey Michaelson, MD — board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and sports-medicine fanatic with a passion for keeping knees, shoulders, and hips in winning shape. A familiar name across Southeast Michigan, he’s served everyone from high-school athletes at Detroit Catholic Central to pros during his timewith the Detroit Tigers.
Trained at the Cleveland Clinic (yes, he worked with the Browns, Cavs, and even Cleveland’s former WNBA team), Dr. Michaelson also earned AOA honors at Wayne State, where he completed both medical school and his orthopedic residency.

👋 Meet Stephanie Nulty, MD— our newest Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in the hand, wrist, and upper extremity!
Born and raised in Macomb, Dr. Nulty is passionate about helping patients get back to the activities they love through expert, individualized care 🙌

She graduated as valedictorian from Michigan State and then earned her MD at the University of Michigan where she was honored for her work in Bioethics. And, yes, she manages both sides of the rivalry with her husband, also a surgeon.

She completed her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Henry Ford Health, and advanced her training with a Hand Surgery fellowship at the University of Arizona where she perfected everything from helping patients use their mouse less painfully to severe crush injuries of the Hand. In her spare time she also obtained an MBA from the University of Cambridge in the UK 🎓💼

Outside the OR, you’ll find her weight training, hiking, or exploring northern Michigan.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Nulty to the team — keeping hands strong and Michigan moving! 👊

👣 Big welcome home to Jacob Markel, MD, our new foot & ankle surgeon! Born and raised in Michigan, he’s bringing world-class training and expertise in ankle replacements, bunion fixes, fractures + more—helping patients of all ages get back on their feet.
When he’s not in the OR, you’ll find him cheering on Michigan football & hockey, golfing or skiing. We’re lucky to have him back in SE Mich! 💙💛

As part of the Michigan delegation with and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons ASES , he teamed up with Sardelli Orthopaedics , and Michigan Medicine’s Dr. Kevin Chan to talk with Congressional lawmakers about making orthopedic care more accessible, improving quality, and supporting innovation through research funding. 💪🦴

🎓✨ Summer Send-Off: Future Physicians in the Making

We’re grateful for the two college students who spent their summer with us at Motor City Orthopedics. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and interest in medicine made them a joy to have in clinic.

If you are a young, active person with shoulder arthritis, look no further than MCO. Dr. Bak implanted a Pyrocarbon shoulder replacement several weeks ago. This new, highly durable surface is much more biocompatible than first-generation surfaces. Notice the gray tint of the implanted humeral head (and the mini incision 😉😉). Drs. Bak and Silas specialize in the difficult and nuanced cases and-most importantly-keeping you active!
