🎓✨ Summer Send-Off: Future Physicians in the Making

We’re grateful for the two college students who spent their summer with us at Motor City Orthopedics. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and interest in medicine made them a joy to have in clinic.

If you are a young, active person with shoulder arthritis, look no further than MCO. Dr. Bak implanted a Pyrocarbon shoulder replacement several weeks ago. This new, highly durable surface is much more biocompatible than first-generation surfaces. Notice the gray tint of the implanted humeral head (and the mini incision 😉😉). Drs. Bak and Silas specialize in the difficult and nuanced cases and-most importantly-keeping you active!

🎉 Another step toward mobility and a pain-free future! Dr. David Knesek recently performed a successful total knee replacement (TKA) using advanced Mako SmartRobotics™ technology. Preoperative planning included a CT scan to evaluate a tibial metaphyseal cyst and guide precision sizing.

To provide optimal support and long-term stability, a trabecular metal tibial cone was used—designed to mimic natural bone structure and promote strong integration.

This personalized approach reflects our ongoing commitment to using cutting-edge solutions that help our patients move with confidence again. 💪🦵

What an amazing weekend at the annual Michigan Orthopaedic Society Meeting!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Diana Silas has been named President of the Michigan Orthopaedic society! Such a remarkable achievement for a true leader in Orthopaedics.

A big thank you to Dr. Paul Knapp for his excellent work moderating, and to Dr. Todd Frush for mentoring our fellow presenters. They did not just attend - they delivered award- winning presentations and are already creating a big impact in the world of Orthopaedics.

We are also excited to highlight the strong research presence from both Henry Ford and Motor City Orthopedics. Our team, together, contributed numerous scientific papers and podium presentations which showcased innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.

We’re energized by the future of Orthopaedics and proud to be leading through innovation and mentorship. Here’s to continued growth and groundbreaking work that’s ahead! 🥂

We are in the age of innovative medicine and we are all for it!
Dr. Diana Silas has been using the Stryker HipMap which allows AI technology to create pre-operative tools to create a patient - specific interactive 3D model of the hip. This allows Dr. Silas to visual impingement, femoral and acetabular angles, and plan resections with pinpoint accuracy.

Our team at Motor City Orthopedics is always keeping up on new advanced technologies to continue to provide the best care we possibly can!

Living with bunions? You don’t have to!

We are entering a new era in bunion correction! Dr. Shaheen is specialized in minimally invasive surgery for bunion corrections. This is a modern, advanced technique that offers amazing benefits, but is often tricky to learn. The key to this is precision which is no problem for Dr. Shaheen!!

Things to expect with this surgery:
- tiny incisions with minimal scarring (perfect for summer)
- Joint preservation - no fusion, no capsule damage
- Walking immediately after surgery

Not all hip replacements are the same and every patient has their own story!

The first slide is a normal anterior total hip replacement done by Dr. Knapp! This is a standard procedure for age related wear and tear (arthritis).

The second slide is a total hip revision also done by Dr. Knapp! This patient had a previous ORIF surgery performed by outside providers- Dr. Knapp ultimately ended up revising due to a fracture they endured!

Two completely different patients with two completely different experiences, but two people with awesome total hips done by our very own Dr. Knapp!

Congratulations to Dr. Diana Silas for being named March 2025 Employee of the Month at Bone and Joint Surgery Center of Novi! Dr. Silas is the first physician ever from MCO to receive this prestigious award. Our sources tell us that not only have her partners (such as Dr. Bak who has spent 10+ years at BJSC) not received this, they have never received an ounce of consideration.
