"I went to Adams Sports Medicine & PT after being told by a podiatrist that I could not run for several weeks and that my injury would only continue to worsen. Their staff not only helped me recover quickly from the injury, but also educated me on what was really going on with my injury and how to prevent it in the future. Now I am a happy athlete that can run as much as I want to and work toward achieving competitive goals!"

So incredibly proud of our ambassador, Kelly Paterson, who recently represented at the XTERRA World Championship! The race took place in the stunning region of Trentino, Italy, and featured a demanding course: a 1.5 km swim in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Molveno, a 32 km mountain bike ride through the technical, scenic trails of the Brenta Dolomites, and a 10 km trail run along the lake and into the surrounding mountains. Rain in the days leading up to the event made for especially tough race-day conditions, with slick and muddy trails adding to the already challenging terrain.

This race held extra meaning for Kelly, who had to withdraw last year due to injury. She’s worked incredibly hard to come back stronger, and to see her not only compete—but complete—the full course was an inspiring moment of redemption. Supporting her every step of the way was her husband and fellow ambassador, Jay Moncel, who played a key role in her race-day team. A huge congratulations on this amazing achievement, Kelly! 🏊🏻‍♀️🚴🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏔️🍷🍕🌧️💪🏻

We’re excited to announce that Dr. Brian Adams, Dr. Sean Condra, and Dr. Eric Kinney will be speaking at the MPTA Fall Conference on “Putting the Sports Back in Sports Medicine.” The session is coming up on Saturday, October 18th at Treetops Resort in Ga***rd, MI, and will feature real-life case studies and insights on diagnosing, treating, and guiding athletes, both recreational and professional, back to peak performance. They’ll cover topics like accelerated rehab, NFL Combine prep, advanced tools like force plates and VALD systems, and managing elite athletes across multiple sports. They’ll also shed light on the value of our sports residency program here at Adams Sports Medicine and wrap up with a roundtable Q&A. Ambassador Spotlight! 🔦🚨🚵🏻‍♀️
We’re excited to highlight our incredible ambassador and athlete, Sarah Vano!

Sarah has been a steady and dedicated presence with the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association (MiSCA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit that empowers communities to create and grow K–12 youth mountain biking programs across the state.

This year, Sarah is involved in several key areas. She contributes to coach education, plays an active role in race production—helping with course marking, monitoring, and ensuring racers stay safe and supported (earning the fun nickname of one of the “woods people”). She also supports the MiSCA DEVO team, the local junior development cycling team, where she coaches and mentors young riders. Sarah also takes on the role of Balance Bike Director, running the yearly event for MiSCA’s youngest participants.

With the MiSCA season now underway, we’re grateful for Sarah’s passion and commitment to helping youth cyclists thrive. We’re also proud to sponsor and support MiSCA and wish all riders the best of luck this season! 👏👏👏

Please join us in giving a very warm welcome to our newest 3rd year PT Doctoral Student, Mikayla Smirnow and Ryan Celmer! 👏🏻👏🏻

Makayla is a third year Doctor of Physical Therapy student from Oakland University completing her 4th and final clinical rotation along side Dr. Joe Goike in Royal Oak. She earned her Bachelors in Exercise Science at Oakland University where she competed on the cheerleading and stunt team. After getting certified, she worked as a strength and conditioning coach in downtown Clarkston during PT school, driving her interest in sport rehab by working with injury prevention, injury rehab, and sports performance. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys weight training and tumbling, reading, and spending time with friends and family watching football in the fall. 🐻📣🤸🏼‍♀️💪🏻

Ryan Celmer is a 3rd year Doctor of Physical Therapy student from Wayne State University completing his final clinical rotation at Adams before graduating in December 2025. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a pre-physical therapy certificate from Madonna University, where he was also a member of the Men’s Baseball team. Ryan is passionate about working with athletes of all sports and ages and active members of the community. He will be training under Dr. Eric Kinney during his time here. When he’s not in the clinic, Ryan enjoys lifting weights, golfing, and taking his dog for walks. 🔰⚾️🏋🏌🏼‍♂️

Congratulations to Dr. Sean Condra on completing his Sports Residency at Adams Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. 🎉💪🏻

This accomplishment highlights his dedication to advancing as a physical therapist, and we’re proud to recognize him as the latest graduate of our sports residency program. 🎓

Over the past year, Sean held a steady caseload in the clinic, providing over 2,000 hours of patient care while working with a wide variety of sports patients and gaining more clinical experience in the field. He dedicated over 100 hours to direct athletic coverage, including race coverage for running, cycling, and triathlon events. He had the opportunity to observe orthopedic surgeries and spend time in clinics alongside orthopedic sports medicine physicians, which broadened his understanding of surgical procedures, post-operative care, and the full continuum of athlete management.

He was able to collaborate with Impact Sports to assist with combine preparation for athletes and has played a key role with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in partnership with GVN Performance Michigan — treating athletes, assisting with strength and return-to-sport testing, and helping them return to the ice stronger and ready to compete.

Through these experiences, Sean has built a strong foundation that will serve him well as he prepares for his Sports Clinical Speciality (SCS) Board examination.

The team is very proud of your outstanding achievement, Sean! 🎉 Many thanks Dr. Hannah DePaul, Dr. Brian Adams, Dr. Daryl Moore, Dr. Hannah Cook, and Dr. Joe Goike for their invaluable guidance and support as residency mentors throughout this past year.

A special thank you as well to Motor City Orthopedics for providing the opportunity for continued growth and learning, and to GVN Performance for their collaboration and mentorship along the way.

Logan is a Junior at the University of Michigan. She’s currently pursuing a degree in neuroscience and plans to apply to PT schools after graduation. She was first introduced to physical therapy after spraining her ankle in high school, and working with the physical therapists confirmed her passion for the practice! 〽️🤸🏼‍♀️✈️🏃🏽‍♀️

Conor is a senior at South Lyon East High School and plans to pursue a degree in neuroscience on the pre-med track. A lifelong athlete, he has played hockey for over 10 years and later added powerlifting and track and field to his high school experience. Conor enjoys both playing and officiating ice hockey in his spare time, with the goal of one day officiating at the junior and NCAA levels 🏒🥅🏋🏻‍♂️🩺

Bryn is a Western Michigan University alumna with a degree in Healthcare Services and Sciences and a minor in Spanish. She plans to apply to PT school at the end of 2025. In her free time she enjoys running, lifting weights, crocheting and making sourdough bread. Bryn loves the outdoors and goes camping and hiking whenever she can. 🏃🏽‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️🥖🏕️

Be sure to say hi to them on your way into the clinics! 👋🏻👋🏻
