Activate your posterior side deeper in Tiger pose or with pulsing kicks of the back heel to the sky. More traditional vinyasa tends to be more forward flexion dominant so adding in options like this can engage that backside more as well as prep one’s body for bigger back bends.

Yoga is not a medication, a one and done solution, or a short series that covers it all. Those who benefit most from yoga practice typically do it consistently, sincerely, and without giving up if results don’t show right away. There’s an important sutra in the yoga sutra of Patanjali that stresses how yoga should be done rigorously, earnestly, without break, and there is Krishna’s teaching of falling in love with the work and not the fruit of that work from the Gita. Teachings like these as old as they are have stood up to the test of time where today even though there are countless brands of yoga, none of them work if we don’t give them enough time, effort, and attention. Find your mat and get back to it.

aka or as some of you like to call it these days “bird dog.” 🦅 🐕 A great position to work from all fours that can start to engage core, hips, shoulders, and posterior in a more supported way that also can prep us for more challenging postures and balances later in a practice, like warrior 3! The position can be customized to a wider position to accommodate different body structures and if you need to test just lower the limbs.

It’s always been the case that we can learn on our own but most people need a teacher and an environment to get the most out of what they’re learning, which happens to come with extra benefits that doing it solo typically doesn’t. Yoga tradition doesn’t specify that a guru has to be a physical teacher, it is really anything that brings us out of ignorance and imparts wisdom, but some can experience those physical teachers that have such an impact it lasts a lifetime. So although the guru principal can be a number of things, sourcing and investing in the right teacher or place to learn is still be super beneficial if you put the work in! This applies to postural yoga among many things.

When your teacher says “make sure you counter any inversions on your back or shoulders with fish pose,” this is what they mean. is that anterior lengthening stretch that allows the cervical spine to bend back and counter the forward bend in shoulder stand. If your teacher tells you to counter, listen to them.

Yoga is Powerful

What does Yoga mean to you?

Like some we once looked at yoga as just a bunch of stretches, incense, and psychedelic looking dancing elephants. However we gave it a try, and pysically it felt different, it felt good! We took it further and gave it more attention. We opened our minds to it’s teachings and concepts, we tried it’s varieties of practices and found there is something powerful here. Yoga literally means “union”, “junction”, or “connection” and we are becoming more familiar with the benefits of it’s great physical exercises, but yoga can be much more for anyone who wants to take it there. Simply put it bridges the voids we may have in our lives. Our fears, our anxieties, our stress, we all have them, and they can hold us back from our full potential and enjoyment of the life experience. Yoga can bridge that gap. ...and it may sound a little far out, but it worked for us, so we have been extremely motivated to share & serve with the practice of yoga. We believe on the other side of “the gap” or “the voids” we may have in our lives a waits unconditional love... WE ALL DESERVE THAT! ...and love is always worth it, always empowering. We’d love you to come yoga with use and have a great time doing it!
