At just 41 years old, John’s life changed in an instant. In addition to a having a stroke, John had blood clots in both arms, both lungs and his neck. When it was time for the next step in his recovery, doctors strongly recommended The Rehabilitation Institute of Southern Illinois. When John arrived, he needed two people just to sit upright. He had no control of his entire right side, his speech was gone and his communication was limited to an occasional thumbs up. John’s recovery is a testament to resilience, expert rehabilitation and the power of compassionate care. With the support of his family and the dedicated team at our hospital, John reclaimed independence and rebuilt his life one step, one word and one victory at a time.

“Everyone at The Rehabilitation Institute of Southern Illinois has been thoughtful, caring and so personable,” said John’s mother, Sandy. “I only have the best things to say about it.”
