This section of the 1863 county plat map shows how Belleville’s Ogles Neighborhood got its name.

Most of the land which now comprises the neighborhood was owned by the Ogle Family, who came to the county from Virginia in the 1780s.

The road traveling southeast to northwest is present-day W. Main St., then called the Rock Road. The road traveling north from the lower left is close to present-day Frank Scott Parkway.

Knight Grove P.O. refers to a short-lived mail stop on the Rock Road.

Nearby sat the Eight-Mile Stone, a meeting place for early coal miners’ unions.
