We are sharing some essential information about dry eye awareness and UV safety for July.

Research has shown that long-term exposure to bright sunlight may increase to risk of cataracts and/or growths on your eye (including cancer).

Did you know your eyes can sunburn?
They can; this is called photokeratitis. This can be from UV rays reflected from UV rays from sand or water. This can result in temporary blindness in just a few hours. You will typically notice symptoms of pain, redness, and light sensitivity within 12 hours; in rare cases, they can appear in as little as an hour. While this is usually temporary, with symptoms resolving within 48 hours, severe cases can lead to longer-lasting issues.

"In support of UV Safety Month this July, the American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the public of the importance of shielding eyes from the sun's harmful rays with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats."

Our office has a wide variety of sunglasses, a style for everyone.
The brands include:

Oakley
Wiley X
Maui Jim
Ray Ban
Ted Baker
Invu
Michael Kors
Coach
Kate Spade

We are sharing some essential information about dry eye awareness and UV safety in July.

Dry eye is a prevalent condition that affects individuals of all ages and can lead to various symptoms, including a stinging or burning sensation, redness, excessive tearing, itchy eyes, a sandy or gritty feeling, episodes of blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, and discomfort with contact lenses.

If your dry eye is caused by eyelid irritation, it's crucial to take proper care of your eyelids. Here are some tips for eyelid care:
Use a warm compress to soothe your eyelids and help loosen any crust or debris.
Perform a digital massage to stimulate the meibomian glands and improve tear production.
Use an eyelid cleanser to gently remove dirt, oil, and makeup from your eyelids.

We have a range of dry eye products available in our office for your convenience, including EyePromise EZ Tears Vitamins (60 tablet bottle or a 3 pack with a slight discount), Bruder Masks (a warm compress), Retaine MGD or PM ointment drops, Pure & Clean Lid Prep (in spray or drop form), OcuSoft Lid Scrub, and Oasis
Preservative Free drops.

Outside of products, we also do dry eye treatments with prescribing medication or putting in punctal plugs. If symptoms are severe or not improving, we offer a procedure called Lipiflow to treat dry eyes. Lipiflow is a device that helps clear your meibomian glands, alleviating dry eye symptoms. The effects of this procedure can last up to a year or longer, depending on the individual.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we encourage you to call or text our office to schedule an appointment. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve your eye comfort and overall well-being.

Our experienced optometrists will thoroughly assess your condition, provide personalized treatment recommendations, and address any questions you may have. Dry Eye treatment and management is just one of our many specialties.

Thank you for choosing our practice for your eye care needs. We are committed to providing you with the best possible care and look forward to serving you.

Help us welcome Dr. Sigmund officially as a doctor today! It is his first day of seeing patients! He is primarily seeing new patients to build his patient base.

With that being said, please be patient with us as we navigate having three doctors three days a week. We are new to having three amazing doctors at one time seeing patients. We are so excited to be able to see more patients and treat everyone.
