Insulin, a hormone essential for regulating blood sugar levels, was discovered in 1921 by Frederick Banting, Charles Best, and John Macleod at the University of Toronto.
In 1922, Banting and Best filed a patent application for insulin and the method of its production.
Banting and Best, believing that insulin should be accessible to all patients, sold the patent to the University of Toronto for just $1.
Corporate greed took over and now patients are struggling with high prices for lifesaving insulin.
Life saving medication such as insulin should be affordable.
