Power Your Mind

Power Your Mind The Power Your Mind program uses graphic novel stories to show how recognizing what gets you worked up. You are not alone!

Welcome to Power Your Mind: Tools to Build Resilience, a guide to help you get through your day without losing your cool. Being a teenager can be tough, and the added stress of COVID-19 is creating high levels of anxiety and anger. According to Mental Health America, 1 in 5 teens live with mental illness, stress, or depression. The Power Your Mind program uses graphic novel stories to show how recognizing what gets you worked up and applying our tools to your thinking can create better outcomes to life’s everyday aggravations. Topics include:

Angry and Fearful Temper
Internal and External Environment
Will-training
Spotting Tools
The 4-Step Method
Hidden Meaning
Humor
Facing Your Fears
Group-Minded vs. Self-Focused

You can use the workbook on your own or as participant in a group workshop. We’ll show examples of ideas in action and then offer tips for you to put them to use in your daily life. This complete program will help you recognize when you get worked up over daily trivial situations, give you tools to manage your symptoms, and relieve stress and anxiety.

“In 2013 we lost my sweet brother Matthew to su***de. His sudden death was a shock to my system. Anxiety, depression and panic attacks began to wreak havoc on my system—my whole body and my mental health suffered. Since training in the Recovery International method, I’ve regained authority over my mental health and peace of mind and body. I’m no longer a victim of the grief or pain I endured. I am learning to be self-led, not symptom-led. I can live a beautiful life while still feeling symptoms. RI has given me hope, true hope. We may feel helpless at times, but there are no hopeless cases. Let us love and be gentle with ourselves and each other.”

Frustration

"Frustration is certainly average. It's not only average, it is common, continuous, more or less, only interrupted by some fleeting moment … and all a human being can do is to hold the continuous series of frustrations down to a low level."

When feeling overwhelmed, do things in part acts, or “one step at a time.”
Most jobs, activities and tasks are complex. But, if broken down into smaller steps, things become manageable. If you are dreading doing a big project at work or around the house, break it up into a series of smaller tasks and congratulate yourself each time you complete one of these “part acts.”
