Read, Read, Read

I enjoy when patients educate themselves regarding the options to make their experience more comfortable.

Most of us google symptoms and we sometimes self diagnose before we decide to see a doctor or not. But careful, their can be a problem with this sort of behavior. We can create panic for no real reason. Searching for a particular symptom can make you arrive to the wrong conclusion. Tying your search with big surgeries or even cancer. In consequence it creates anxiety, call it "cyberchondriac," millions suffer of this.

The internet covers many issues from simple ones to the most severe health issues. It is not uncommon to exaggerate your case and convince yourself that your situation is worse than it actually is. This search can turn patients into a new type of hypochondriac who are genuinely distressed and scared , leading to unnecessary visits to the emergency room, urgent care or physician offices. It will cause you to spend time and money on unnecessary tests and treatments.

I wish that the visit to my office should be a partnership with a mutual understanding and a clearer idea of what is happening. It is not a problem to discuss your google search or what is happening to your best friend when she herself saw her doctor with "a similar case like your."
