During Certified Nursing Assistants Week, we recognize the inspiring contributions that our hospice and home health aides make every day. They are the true eyes, ears, and hands of our clinical teams, turning the everyday tasks that patients can’t do for themselves into opportunities to show compassion. Your patience and kindness in the little moments that you share with patients make such a tremendous difference in their lives, and we couldn’t be prouder of you.

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Emmeline D. Hospice Clinical Liaison

"I chose to work in hospice because I am passionate about providing patient and family-centered care at the end-of-life. I believe that everyone deserves access to compassionate, dignified care, and it is an honor to assist patients and their loved ones in navigating this journey. To me, hospice care represents the very best of the nursing practice model, focusing on the whole person. It is a privilege to empower patients and their loved ones to make informed decisions about end-of-life care."

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Teresita U. Branch Administrator

"My mom is a medical assistant who frequently took me to work as a child. Watching her work, I became more interested in healthcare and decided to pursue nursing. I have been a nurse for 12 years, and I enjoy caring for those who are in need of assistance. Being a hospice nurse is a unique profession, and I feel honored to be part of the journey our patients take on their last days. I hope I've made a positive difference in my patients' lives."

After spending many years working in the nursing home and assisted living setting, I was truly blessed to find a home with Gentiva Hospice. I have been able to take my knowledge from the last 19 years in healthcare and help families have peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving the best quality of life at the end of life."

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Lorri T. Admissions Coordinator

"I knew of Gentiva Hospice because both of my parents received hospice services through Gentiva. We experienced some of the most caring and compassionate staff, not only for our parents but for my entire family. It was a very difficult time losing my parents only 3 months apart, and the staff was there with us, holding our hands and praying. Their kind words are what stick with me most. After 41 years of working in admissions at a nursing home, it was time to find another job after they closed their doors. Then, the opportunity to join Gentiva was presented to me, and I knew I wanted to be a part of this great team my parents had."

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Cathy N. Patient Care Manager

"In 2006, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. After exhausting all other options, he chose hospice. The team really impacted my entire family. I still remember asking his nurse the question about giving him nutrition another way because he could no longer tolerate anything by mouth. She took the time to explain why that was not a good choice with care and compassion. Everyone who came to my parent's house was so kind, and they took the time to educate us on what was going on and what to expect. This was a very difficult time, but this team made it just a little better. They attended his wake, and I can't tell you how much this meant to us. I joined a local hospice in Tallahassee 3 years later and have been in the hospice industry ever since. Making a patient and family's hospice journey less painful, less stressful, and more meaningful the way this team did for my family is why I do what I do."
