A message from our Chaplain.

"I wished to take a moment to reflect upon the significance of bringing my heart to hospice and caring for the hearts of others. The concept of the heart has a much broader and deeper meaning in human culture, as the heart is often seen as the seat of the soul or emotions and the center of human experience. Proverbs 4:24 says, "above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Ever since I joined Gentiva, I've always appreciated that we have a heart symbol on our badges. It's a recognizable symbol for those we serve that we are someone who cares and in whom they can trust. We often talk in hospice about the importance of leading with our hearts. I know personally, I could not have kept going in hospice since 2013 without leading with my heart. People can sense our heartfelt and genuine nature, especially at the end of life, where they are often more vulnerable. We step into situations that are many and varied in hospice, bringing our hearts full of compassion, love, and care, and sometimes we can get a lot of what people are feeling in their hearts, their experiences of what they are going through. This is where having a team to support each other is such a blessing. Ultimately, leading with my heart means looking at all the hearts in the room or any space I might be in as not just another person to serve but someone who needs my compassion, sensitivity, and respect. I strive to listen for what is truly going on in their hearts —what they are feeling and experiencing during a difficult time, how they are coping, and who is there for them. Each day as we share our hearts with others in hospice, we are open to having them share their lives and hearts with us. It truly is the heart-to-heart human interaction that defines hospice care, and I believe this is one of the most sacred spaces I could ever be in life. And how awesome that we get to be there for each other, to encourage and uplift one another as we serve together in hospice."

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Emmeline D. Hospice Clinical Liaison

"I chose to work in hospice because I am passionate about providing patient and family-centered care at the end-of-life. I believe that everyone deserves access to compassionate, dignified care, and it is an honor to assist patients and their loved ones in navigating this journey. To me, hospice care represents the very best of the nursing practice model, focusing on the whole person. The Heart of Hospice - What is my "WHY"

Teresita U. Branch Administrator

"My mom is a medical assistant who frequently took me to work as a child. Watching her work, I became more interested in healthcare and decided to pursue nursing. I have been a nurse for 12 years, and I enjoy caring for those who are in need of assistance. Being a hospice nurse is a unique profession, and I feel honored to be part of the journey our patients take on their last days. I hope I've made a positive difference in my patients' lives."

The Heart of Hospice - What is my "Why"

Christina D. Sr Hospice Care Consultant

"My WHY is because I get to help take some of the burden from families with navigating an overwhelming situation. After spending many years working in the nursing home and assisted living setting, I was truly blessed to find a home with Gentiva Hospice. I have been able to take my knowledge from the last 19 years in healthcare and help families have peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving the best quality of life at the end of life."
