We asked you last year during Disability Pride Month what is one thing you wish the people around you understood about living with a disability.
Here are some things you mentioned:
๐ โJust because a disability isnโt visible doesnโt mean itโs not there.โ
๐ โI am not less of a person. I am not less capable, less lovable, or less worthy. I deserve to be here.โ
๐ โNot all pain is visible. And just because my symptoms or struggles canโt be see by you does not mean theyโre not valid. You never know what someone is going through, so please be kind.โ
๐ โJust because I use a wheelchair doesnโt mean I need others to speak or act for me.โ
๐ โMy chronic illness takes such a toll on my mental health. I wish more people could understand that. I wish we had more su***de prevention support.โ
๐ โJust because you donโt see my disability does not negate the fact it affects so much of my existence.โ
๐ โThere is nothing fundamentally wrong with me. I am still a completely whole person even if I have a disability.โ
For those who are reading this today, and living with a disability we want you to know that youโre not a burden. You are not less lovable or less worthy. You deserve to be here. And you are worthy of equality, care, and kindness from the people and systems around you.
Happy Disability Pride Month.
