Association of Educational Therapists

Association of Educational Therapists AET, the national professional association for educational therapists, defines and sets standards for the professional practice of educational therapy.

The Association of Educational Therapists (AET) is the national professional organization dedicated to defining the professional practice of educational therapy, setting standards for ethical practice, and promoting state-of-the-art service delivery through on-going professional development and training programs. AET provides information to the public about educational therapy and facilitates access to educational therapy services. Educational therapists provide intensive, individualized educational interventions for children and adults with learning disabilities and other learning challenges such as dyslexia, ADHD, language processing problems, poor motivation, low academic self-esteem, performance anxiety and poor social, organizational, and/or study skills. Clients may include students needing appropriate school placement or adults needing workplace support. Educational therapists are well versed in formal and informal assessment as well as a wide range of learning methods and strategies. They communicate with significant members of the client’s world, including family members, teachers, other professionals, and employers, for the purpose of developing an understanding of the client’s needs and appropriate ways to provide support.

ETs starting out in private practice - have you heard about EET??

The Entrepreneurship for Educational Therapists (EET) is a virtual support group for ETs in the early stages of launching and/or expanding a private business practice. The goals and objectives of the group are the following:
-To provide support for ETs who are interested in setting up a private practice, or have been in practice less than 2 years
-To encourage collegiality and sharing of information and ideas related to private business practices across various geographical areas
-To offer networking opportunities for ETs who practice in areas where there are few prospects to connect with other ETs

Each meeting will focus on a different area of building a private practice, including creating intake procedures and documents, scheduling, building networking relationships, gaining and retaining clients, professional services, and e-practice.

The EET program is designed as a benefit of membership in AET. Each cohort of the EET program will be limited to 15 people. It is designed for ETs who have been in private practice for less than 2 years, and are in the initial stages of building their private practice.

Applications are now open, through June 30th!!

Building Reading Confidence with Pair-Reading

Does your child hesitate or get frustrated while reading? Pair-Reading is an evidence-based strategy that helps struggling readers build confidence and fluency in a supportive and low-pressure way.

Here’s how to try it:

📖 Sit Side by Side – Create a stress-free reading space.

📖 Read Together – Start reading aloud at the same time.

📖 Support, Don’t Correct – If they struggle, gently model the word and encourage a retry.

📖 Encourage Independence – As their confidence grows, let them take the lead.

📖 Celebrate Every Win – Small successes build long-term confidence!

Reading should be an empowering experience, not a stressful one. With encouragement and patience, struggling readers can thrive.
