After our daughter received her feeding tube, a surgically placed G-tube, we met a wonderful lady who provided information about cloth pads to replace gauze with. She gave us a single ButtonBuddy to try, and we never used tape and gauze again! No more reactions to tape, and we didn't have to take our daughter back to the surgeon anymore for infections or Granulation Tissue. (It was traumatizing to have the granulation tissue burnt off, and thanks to a Button Buddy that is a thing of the past!)
After finding out that this sweet lady passed away and no one was donating these little treasures to the Pediatric Surgery Clinic anymore, we decided to start making them to donate, and challenged others to join us. Most Button Buddies created from this page and those who are participating go to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, TN. However, we are inviting others to branch out and creating contact points to donate to other Children's Hospitals throughout the US. A Button Buddy is a small thing, however it has the ability to bring a smile to the wearer and those around them, help prevent painful granulation tissue, and encourage acceptance. Our daughter loves to participate in choosing which one she is going to wear for the day, and it lessened her anxiety around change-out routine. If you would like to donate your time or sewing skills, material, other supplies, or become a contact point for your hospital- please let us know. We also would greatly love and appreciate it if you would like to sponsor a Tubie Button Smile Package to be sent to your favorite Tubie or donated to the hospital as well. Thank you so much for your support!
