A Blog Worth Reading

Birth plans aren’t always about playlists and preferences.

Sometimes, they’re about love, meaning, and memory in the face of the unimaginable.

In “Birth Plans for the Unimaginable,” Dr. Solimar Santiago-Warner, LCSW, PMH-C explores how perinatal palliative care honors families carrying babies with life-limiting conditions, centering grief, bonding, culture, spirituality, and choice from diagnosis through postpartum and beyond.

This powerful piece reminds us that grief and love coexist, and that compassionate care makes space for both.

Bad Bunny gave many parents something unexpected this week — a moment to talk with our kids about belonging, difference, and identity.

Children don’t grow up in isolation. They learn who is welcomed, who is excluded, and who is “allowed” to take up space by what they see and hear around them. Seeing someone show up fully — language, culture, identity intact — sends a powerful message: you don’t have to shrink who you are to belong.

And this matters more than we sometimes realize.

Research shows that children who feel proud of their cultural identity — and more broadly, affirmed in who they are — tend to be more emotionally grounded, develop stronger social skills, and have better academic outcomes. When a child feels their whole self is welcomed — not just tolerated — their nervous system can stay more regulated, even when the world feels uncertain.

Because the internal message they carry becomes:
I am acceptable. I am worthy. Just as I am.

Moments like this can open meaningful conversations at home. You don’t need a script — just curiosity.

You might ask:
• How did it feel watching the performance?
• How do you think kids who saw their language or culture reflected on that stage felt?
• What helps people feel like they belong?

These conversations build empathy, grow understanding, and help raise kids who know how to make space for others — and for themselves.

At Real Mama Bears, we believe belonging grows when love leads the conversation. 💛
