From the desk of Corporate Chaplain Jim Zippay:
Every spring, after a long and difficult winter, the crocuses
appear. Their bright colors breaking through the cold soil tell
us that something better is coming. Those small flowers are
like a preview—an appetizer before the main course—stirring
hope and anticipation for the days ahead.
When the Christian Church established the seasons of the faith,
it intentionally connected them to the rhythms of the earth.
Christmas, the celebration of the Light of the World, comes
during the darkest days of the year. Easter, with its promise of
new life, arrives in spring—when the world itself begins to
wake up.
Spring is such a powerful way to understand Easter, because
the resurrection of Jesus is like those first crocuses pushing
through the ground. His new life was not just for him; it was a
foreshadowing of what God intends for all creation. That is
why Scripture promises that God will make all things new.
So, when you notice the signs of spring around you—the
budding trees, the warmer temps, the flowers returning—allow
them to prompt your imagination. Let them point you toward a
spring yet to come. A spring that will never end. A time when
everything will be made new, and the life we glimpse at Easter
will be fully and eternally revealed.
In faith,
