I just returned from the trip of my lifetime - 18 amazing and fabulous days in Italy. I had wanted to see Italy for as long as I can remember, and it exceeded my expectations.

Ever read Liz Gilbert’s “Eat, Pray, Love” (or see the film)? She said to her best friend that she needed to marvel at something. I get it. I did marvel at ancient ruins, historic sights and works of art by Renaissance masters. Beyond that, I marveled at the food (which is art in and of itself), the turquoise blue of the Mediterranean Sea, the rolling Tuscan landscapes, and the Italian people (and the beautiful sound of their language!). I swear even their tap water tasted fantastic! It was all spectacular.

I will miss Italy so much, but am so incredibly grateful for this trip and all the experiences my partner and I had (boating and swimming in the Mediterranean, eating pizza in Naples, drinking wine in Tuscany, seeing ancient ruins in Rome and Pompeii, standing under Michaelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, learning how to make limoncello…). This trip solidified for me my burning desire to see more of the world I haven’t seen yet. I want to continue to marvel and learn as I travel and explore.

The beautiful, well-versed 83 year old lady, fully dressed every morning at 8 am sharp, with her hair done in fashion and perfectly applied makeup, is moving to a retirement home. Her husband recently died, which motivated her move.
After many hours of patiently waiting in the hall of the home, she smiled sweetly, when told her room was ready.
As she moved her walker toward the elevator, she was given a detailed description of her small room, including the curtains hanging from her window.
′′ I love it "", she said, with the enthusiasm of a 8-year-old girl who was just handed over a new pet.
- Mrs. Jones; you haven't seen the room, just wait.
- That doesn't matter, she replied.
Happiness is something you decide over time. Whether or not I like my room doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged, it depends on how I arrange my mind.
I’ve already decided that I like it. It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have the choice; I can spend the day in bed, going through the difficulty I have with my body parts that don't work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the parts that do work.
Every day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I will focus on the new day and the happy memories I've stored just for this time in my life.
HAPPINESS is like a bank account: you withdraw from it, what you deposit.
So my advice would be to deposit a lot of happiness into your memory account.
Remember these five simple things:
1.- Free your heart from hate/discord.
2.- Free your mind from worries.
3.- Live Simply.
4.- Give more.
5.- Take less.

Hello! Apologies, particularly to newcomers checking out this page, that I have not posted in a while. I put myself in a time-out. ☺️

My goal for this page was to be inspirational, positive and encouraging, and, honestly, I wasn’t feeling it. I got wrapped up in the negativity of the world around me. I got sucked in and was drowning in the bad news I was reading.

But, I managed to get myself out of that funk, that negative head space, and into a healthier one. So, I’m back with something positive. Maybe you’re in the same dilemma - trying to stay informed and also trying to stay sane. So, if I can make a mental shift, so can you.

When I got tired of reading about human rights violations, the US Constitution being dismantled, etc., and made a conscious decision instead to read whatever uplifting news came across my feed, what scientific discovery or new invention a country implemented to help people and our planet, or a story about someone doing some great good with their time or their wealth… the results were pretty dramatic.

The first thing that changed was my mindset. I became more hopeful and less fearful and angry. (This doesn’t mean I stopped caring about injustices…)

The next thing that happened, though, was that my Facebook feed itself actually changed! I started seeing more positive content and less political content. Hallelujah!

It is absolutely true that what you think about, you bring about. I trained my brain to focus on the positive and then my news feed actually became more positive! We all know this is an algorithm and not a miracle, but still…

Anyway, I feel better. And I’m back to hopefully inspire anyone reading this. I hope you too can change your scrolling to have a more positive experience.

Namaste

Elsie the mini cow and the goats were laying down on the job this morning for Goat Yoga at Greenlands Farm. (I don’t blame them; it was very hot.) Elsie usually takes over someone’s mat because she loves belly rubs. ☺️

This is what GOAT Yoga looks like. They were in full form today, head-butting each other, lounging on our mats, chewing shoelaces, biting at our clothing, ankles, and toes, and it seems their favorite thing is chewing on long hair. ☺️💕 You should plan to come because the animals are a nice break from the news! 😊. I’m sad to share that I lost my sweet 17 year old black cat, Tabitha last week. She gently and gracefully reached the end of her life. I’m grateful she didn’t suffer and was healthy for so long.

I adopted this beautiful cat in 2010. Truth be told, it was my first attempt at being a foster mom. (She and her four young kittens were abandoned by their previous human.). I totally failed at the foster thing and kept Tabitha and two of the kittens. I mean, I couldn’t keep FIVE more cats when I already had a cat and two dogs! Because THAT would have been crazy. Somehow, I rationalized, ending up with four cats and two dogs seemed perfectly sane. And in doing so, I became a Crazy Cat Lady.

Tabitha was gentle-natured and easy-going. Her favorite things were naps and belly rubs. She loved looking out windows, watching birds and squirrels. She enjoyed her food, cat treats, sometimes getting some milk from my cereal (although she always seemed shocked it was almond milk and not the real thing), and being brushed, groomed, and petted.

Her absence in my household is palpable. For the first time in 25 years, I do not have any pets; she was the last. It is the end of an era. I’m not the Crazy Cat Lady anymore. It is quiet and lonely. There is nobody watching me or following me into the bathroom (Tabitha was particularly fascinated with the walk-in shower); there is nobody to trip over, nobody asking to be fed or wanting attention. There is nobody to say hello or goodbye to when I come and go. I still search for her when I come into a room, but find her favorite spots empty.

It will continue to be quite an adjustment. I miss Tabitha. She was fun to have around. I’m glad she was my companion for so long. I consider it an honor and a blessing to have taken in and loved so many of God’s creatures. And they gave that love back to me tenfold.

I’m comforted by the thought that Tabitha is reunited with Romeo (her son, my all-black cat, the one for whom Black Cat Yoga was named) and Delilah, two of her children who crossed the rainbow bridge ahead of her. The photo of the three of them together makes me happy.

Peace. Namaste.

A great (or is that goat?) time was had by all this morning at South Front Apartment Community in Wilmington. Residents joined with some goat guests from Helpers of Our Farm (HOOF) in Bolivia for a yoga session. Three baby goats (only 5-7 weeks old) provided their special brand of entertainment. Thanks for asking me to teach!
