Illinois families and midwives have fought this for OVER FIFTY YEARS!

Today, licenses have been issued to Certified Professional Midwives!

Healthy, low-risk women and their babies have better outcomes when attended by a midwife, rather than an OB.

Between 30-60% of women giving birth in U.S. hospitals are having unnecessary medical procedures performed upon them! But, necessary or not, all of these medical procedures and interventions allow physicians to maximize their billing opportunities.

For years, the medical establishment has been working to limit birthing options. They’ve fought against birthing centers, homebirth, midwives, even against their own accountability.

They’re more interested in protecting their revenues than improving outcomes for our familes and babies.

PSA for lactating folks: Many herbs used during the holidays (particularly sage, thyme, oregano, parsley, and mints) can decrease your milk supply. As can stress, dehydration, cold/flu, lack of sleep, travel, etc.

Your normal routine is almost guaranteed to be thrown out of whack. And your busy baby may be too enamored w/ new people, places, experiences, and toys to remember to nurse. Not to mention the relatives that will be filling his/her little tummy with things other than your milk.

PLEASE be sure to take care of yourself during this season! (It never hurts to have some Mother's Milk tea or Vitanica's Lactation Blend capsules on hand.) And unless you're both ready to wean, be sure to schedule some nursing sessions so you and your nursling have a chance to relax and reconnect. β™₯ Happy Holidays!

Also -- babywearing can keep friends and family from kissing all over your baby's face or playing "pass the baby" during cold and flu season. πŸ˜‰

Friendly Reminder. Times with many developmental changes in a short period of time are always challenging -- newborns, toddlers, tweens and teens.

When they reach their breaking point, WE are usually their first targets. Because they are secure in our love and attachment.

Many of our kids are mature and aware enough to (rightfully) be very afraid of life in the US after January.

You may not have answers or viable plans. But you CAN look into your kids' eyes and promise that you will do anything and everything within your power to keep them safe. Even if you don't know what that looks like right now.

I hope that helps. πŸ’•

As of April 2017, 55% of Illinois counties did not have any OBGYNs or hospitals providing labor and delivery services.

I am sure it's gotten worse.

This week, a children's hospital in Cleveland posted an article on "Your Teens First Gynecology Visit." Deciding when; Determining why; Explaining how.

The first panel is a comment from an adult male in Indiana. The next two are my response.

Please note: The tone of my response is because this white cis hetero Indiana man tried to mansplain to me how teen girls should behave during gynecological appointments.
