Attention:
Nurse Aides,
CNA Continuing Education (CE) Reminder
In accordance with the Michigan Administrative Rules for Nurse Aides R 400.315, certified nurse aides (CNA) are required to complete 12 hours annually of continuing education (CE) as a condition of renewal.
CE requirements will be part of the renewal application process effective March 23, 2026. Any CNA who is renewing their certificate because their current expiration date is on or after March 23, 2026, must have completed the 12 hours of required annual CE prior to their expiration date. For example, a CNA whose certificate expires on March 23, 2026, must have completed the required 24 hours of CE (at a rate of 12 hours per year) within the 2 years preceding that date. For more information, please visit our website at www.michigan.gov/lara/bureau-list/bchs/nurse-aide-registry and click on the "Renewals and CE Requirements” section.
Please note that:
CNAs ARE NOT required to submit proof of CE at the time of renewal, but must maintain documentary proof of CE for 2 renewal cycles (4 years prior to the most recent renewal) so that it can be provided to the Bureau of Community and Health Systems (BCHS) UPON REQUEST during any audits or investigations.
