🍏 Child-Led Magic in Music Therapy 🍏

Today’s green juice? Egg shakers. The recipe? Pure imagination. 💚
This moment wasn’t planned—but it was perfect. This is the beauty of child-led play in music therapy: when we let go of the agenda, children show us exactly what they need.

✨ Why this mattered:
In that sip of “juice,” this child was exploring self-expression, sensory integration, and symbolic play—all within the safe, musical world we built together.

🎵 Tangible tips for embracing child-led strategies:
1. Follow their lead – If a child changes how a prop is used, lean in. It might spark a whole new therapeutic direction.
2. Say yes to the silly – Playfulness builds connection and safety. Therapeutic work doesn’t have to look clinical.
3. Pause before prompting – Give space for creativity to unfold without jumping in too quickly.
4. Reflect, don’t redirect – Mirror their ideas back with curiosity instead of rerouting them.
5. Let instruments be more than instruments – A shaker can be a microphone, a drink, a car, or a crown.

Child-led doesn’t mean hands-off. It means being deeply present, responsive, and open to co-creating meaning—one green juice at a time. 🥤🎶

Mental Health Skill Meets Creative Arts Magic

Each month, our team of board-certified music therapists deepens our clinical practice by learning and applying a new DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skill to better support the mental health of our adolescent clients.

In May, we explored distress tolerance through the IMPROVE skill—Imagery, Meaning, Prayer, Relaxation, One thing in the moment, Vacation, Encouragement.

To bring it to life, we paired each element of the acronym with music and art-based interventions, helping clients imagine and express their dream vacation through song creation, guided imagery, and collaborative drawing.

These creative tools don’t just spark joy—they equip our clients with practical ways to self-regulate, build resilience, and access emotional safety in overwhelming moments.

THIS Saturday is our 6th annual Spring Showcase! We love seeing our clients & students show off their talent and love for music 🎶

These showcases are so special to us 🥰 Connecting with community through music is a pillar of

When we hear music we entrain, our breath and heart rates become synchronized. We become connected on an unconscious and physiological level 🧠

Our brains also feel the passion, the lyrics and the emotions evoked by the music. It’s a powerful way to feel and create with others.

These 2 hours remind us not just how far our clients and students have come on their journey, but the power of being in music!
