The last day of Black History Month is so deserving of this post. Happy Black History Month and it is purposeful that I share my Herstory (2024 Sacred Rose Midwifery Homebirth Stats) as a Black Midwife in Detroit during Black Herstory Month. Thankful to all the Black midwives who paved the way so that I can continue the legacy to support Black homebirth families. Thankful to the families who hire me and the midwives and student midwives who hold my hand on this journey!

I took an intentional break in 2024 so I only served about half the families than I would normally serve due to life's challenges and needing to slow down to catch my breath so I decided to operate a low volume practice and it was amazing.

Looking ahead for 2025:
*I finally got 2 months off in a row- mid July- mid Sept
*Midwife Cynthia will attend her 500th homebirth!
*One of my students will become a midwife!
*I'll be hosting the 10th annual Sacred Rose Midwifery Family Picnic!

It's always fun to take a look back at the previous year to see all of your accomplishments. I enjoy sharing my yearly stats as much as you like to see them. But I forgot a few important things I wanted to share so I attached 3 pics below.

As a midwife I'm always going back to the drawing board to see how I can do it better and show up better. I've watched so many midwives get burned out, so sustainability has always been important to me. One of the things I incorporated in 2023 was Summer Hours which means I do home visits from 9a-3p during the months of June- Sept. I can see 5 families per day and I do home visits 2-3 times a week AND I get to enjoy more sunshine and summer activities. I enjoyed it so much that I'll be doing that yearly until I retire. My regular hours have changed as well, I do home visits 2 times a week from 10a- 4p and rarely 5:30p if I need to. This is how I create better work life balance.

So I've also been getting lots of inquiries and here's an update for 2024. I am completely booked through Sept. I am only accepting clients with due dates in Oct and Nov and then that will conclude my year.

I'll be posting something special on the 29th, the bonus day of Black History Month! Stay tuned!

Happy Black History/Herstory Month! The wait is over and I'm finally sharing my 2023 birth stats for Sacred Rose Midwifery! It is on purpose that I share my stats during Black Herstory Month because after all me and my practice deserve to be recognized during this month dedicated to us. A Black midwife showing up for her community, yeah that's me! A Black Midwife who is apart of History, yeah that's me! Out here standing on business! And built for greatness!

All of the four March homebirths were late, although the word "late" is subjective when it comes to babies & birth. All four started labor on their own without any intervention. They all decided to come from Tues to Tues: Mar 21, Mar 22, Mar 24, & Mar 28. This can happen when you trust the process, trust your body, and trust your midwife. No interventions unless medically necessary.

Homebirth #399- This mama and her husband worked so well together during the homebirth of baby #3. We waited 41.6 wks for her arrival and it was just an absolutely beautiful birth!! I loved having the professional photographer to capture the intricate details of this birth. I am forever grateful to the family for entrusting in my services.

I'm so proud of my homebirth team. Although I'm the lead midwife my student/assistant were leaders in my eyes at the birth yesterday. I was so tired going into this birth and I really needed them and let me tell you they stepped up and got this 1st time mom to the finish line. She was struggling and was very vocal about it. She contemplated the hospital but Kmt Ibura Maimoonah Ha took over where it was needed and changed her mindset. When mom was saying "I can't do this", Kemit was telling her to say "I can, I will, and I am!" That was the mantra that got her through. Cassandra Mongala was right there coaching and also keeping mom in the game. I am forever grateful for their work, wisdom, and intuition. We are booked for the rest of the year although there might be room for 1 more Nov 2022 due date. We will be off call for Dec 2022 so don't even ask unless you're a repeat client. Lol!
