Home Birth Is Where Our Heart Is
Gentle Birth Care was founded in 2009 and has grown from a tiny operation with just one owner/midwife Hillary and her assistant Lisa to a practice that serves the entire Chicago area with a small but mighty staff from a wide variety of nursing and midwifery experiences. We are passionate about making home birth accessible to low-risk families who are seeking an intimate, respectful, evidence-based home birth midwifery practice.
Our team lives all across the area, ranging from far northwest suburbs, to the near and far western suburbs, and from the far North to the far West and South of Chicago and suburbs. Our assistants (all working in a delegated, not independent, capacity) have backgrounds ranging from training as a Certified Professional Midwife, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and Student Nurse Midwife. Some of us have children; some do not. Some of us have had home births (some even with this practice!); some have had uncomplicated, and others, more complicated hospital births. Some do other work that complements attending births and caring for families with our practice, in roles such as childbirth educators and birth and postpartum doulas. Sometimes we are a site for training nurse midwives and nurse practitioners in training. We are always learning from and with each other about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting, to better care for the communities we serve.
Through everything we do, we are here because we believe in the power of childbearing people and placing the childbearing family at the center of a supportive team and plan of care that maximizes the power of bringing new life into the world.
We do this because it’s where our heart is. We love being able to practice from our hearts and guided by the best science.
