July 23 is National Women Touched by Addiction Day, a day to recognize the unique challenges women face with substance use disorders.

At Crossroads we’re committed to creating safe, judgment-free spaces where women can receive evidence-based care and reclaim their lives. Today we honor their strength, resilience and journey toward recovery.

The most dangerous myths about addiction persist because of stigma. Common misconceptions include: addiction is a choice, people should be able to quit on their own and treatment doesn't work. Science tells a different story. The National Institute on Drug Abuse confirms that addiction changes brain chemistry, willpower alone is insufficient for recovery and evidence-based treatments have success rates comparable to other chronic diseases.

Treatment works. If you need help breaking the cycle, visit crossroadstreatmentcenters.com.

Professional stigma prevents many high-functioning individuals from seeking help. Studies in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment reveal that professionals in medicine, law and business often avoid treatment due to licensing concerns and career repercussions. Meanwhile, workplace stress continues driving substance use disorders.

July 11 is World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day, a time to raise awareness about the risks of prolonged or unsupervised benzodiazepine use.

According to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 8.4% of U.S. adults used benzodiazepines in the past year, and 1.3% (about 3.7 million) misused them. In 2024, over 11,500 overdose deaths in the U.S. involved benzodiazepines — often alongside opioids, greatly increasing the risk of respiratory depression and fatal overdose.

Withdrawal symptoms can include anxiety, agitation and seizures. At Crossroads, we encourage patients to talk with their care teams about the risks and benefits of benzodiazepine use and safer treatment options.

People living in rural areas face unique challenges accessing addiction treatment — including fewer providers and longer travel distances. A 2024 study published in Health Services Research by Ohio State University’s College of Public Health found rural adults with substance use disorders were about 21% less likely to initiate treatment than their urban peers.

Crossroads operates centers in rural communities across nine states, providing local, accessible care with same-day treatment options. Recovery should never depend on where you live. Find your nearest center: http://crossroadstreatmentcenters.com/locations

Illicit fentanyl is now involved in more deaths than any other drug in the United States. This synthetic opioid is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and is often mixed into he**in, co***ne or counterfeit pills — often without the user’s knowledge.

According to the CDC, over 70,000 overdose deaths in 2022 involved synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl. A dose as small as two milligrams can be fatal.

If you or someone you love is using fentanyl or street drugs, don’t wait. Crossroads offers evidence-based treatment that can help prevent overdose and support long-term recovery. Visit: http://crossroadstreatmentcenters.com

Independence Day is a celebration of freedom—and for many in recovery, it’s also a reflection of personal resilience.

This July 4th, let’s honor every person working to reclaim their life and build a future that’s healthy, stable and full of purpose.

July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to highlight the unique mental health challenges faced by communities of color and other underserved populations.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, racial and ethnic minorities are less likely to have access to mental health services and more likely to receive lower-quality care. For those living with both mental health and substance use disorders, these barriers can be life-threatening.

At Crossroads, we are committed to breaking down those barriers by expanding access to culturally responsive, evidence-based treatment — because substance use disorder and mental health treatment should be accessible to all, regardless of background.

06/29/2025

A recent White Paper by Avalere Health reveals average annual cost per Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) case is nearly $700K, with a projected national cost of $4 trillion in 2024. Treatment can significantly reduce these costs: behavioral therapy plus long-acting injectable (LAI) buprenorphine saves an estimated $295K per case. Therapy combined with methadone or oral buprenorphine saves about $271K each, while behavioral therapy alone saves $144K. These savings depend on full adherence to treatment for one year.

At Crossroads, we support effective treatment options that improve recovery outcomes and reduce the financial impact of OUD. Learn more at crossroadstreatmentcenters.com.

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day—a vital reminder that knowing your status is the first step toward prevention and care.

According to the CDC, nearly 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV and about one in seven don’t know they have it. Early testing and diagnosis are key to accessing treatment and improving health outcomes.

At Crossroads, we encourage everyone to get tested and take control of their health. Compassionate care and support are available for those impacted by HIV and substance use disorders alike.

June 26 marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse (Misuse), a global call to strengthen action and cooperation in creating a drug-free world.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), over 296 million people worldwide used drugs in 2021—an increase of 23% over the previous decade. Substance use disorders are a growing public health challenge, but treatment saves lives.

At Crossroads, we stand firm in our mission to expand access to evidence-based care, reduce stigma and support individuals on their path to recovery—because everyone deserves a chance to heal.

The cost of stigma extends beyond the individual. Harvard Medical School research shows that communities with higher levels of addiction stigma have lower treatment facility availability and higher overdose rates. When we stigmatize substance use disorders, we're weakening our entire healthcare system.

At Crossroads, we're committed to accessible care that treats substance use disorders as the medical condition it is. Breaking down barriers starts with understanding.

June is National Safety Month—a time to recognize that true safety goes beyond preventing accidents. It includes protecting our mental and physical health, especially for those impacted by substance use disorders (SUD).

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), access to consistent, evidence-based treatment significantly improves outcomes for individuals with SUD. Public programs like Medicaid are essential in reducing barriers to care, helping ensure that safety and support are within reach for millions.

At Crossroads, we proudly accept Medicaid and are committed to creating safer, healthier communities—one person at a time.

Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom—it’s a call to continue addressing the inequalities that persist in our society today. At Crossroads, we understand that substance use disorders (SUDs) disproportionately affect marginalized communities due to systemic barriers like poverty, limited access to care and stigma.

As we honor Juneteenth, we reaffirm our mission to deliver inclusive, evidence-based treatment that meets people where they are, especially those too often overlooked by the healthcare system.

This day reminds us why we must continue advocating for equity in every step of the treatment journey.

Women face gender-specific stigma that creates unique recovery barriers. Research in the Journal of Women's Health shows that women with substance use disorders experience higher rates of shame, reduced social support and greater fears about losing custody of children compared to men. Despite these challenges, women often have fewer treatment options addressing their specific needs.

Crossroads offers resources for these distinct challenges. Recovery should be accessible to everyone. Discover our recovery services at crossroadstreatmentcenters.com.

At Crossroads, we understand that recovery involves more than clinical care. Social factors like housing, employment and legal challenges often impact a person's ability to sustain recovery. That’s why we partner with community organizations to connect patients with essential support services beyond treatment.

By addressing these social determinants of health, we help individuals overcome barriers, rebuild stability and achieve long-term recovery—one step at a time.

This is Men's Health Week. Men face higher risks for heart disease, depression and substance use disorder (SUD)—yet are less likely to seek help. Caring for your health is a strength, not a weakness.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), men are more likely than women to use illicit drugs and have higher rates of dependence on these substances.

At Crossroads, we offer evidence-based, gender-informed care to support men on their path to recovery. Visit us at crossroadstreatmentcenters.com.

There is a strong connection between trauma and substance use disorders. According to SAMHSA, up to 75% of people with substance use disorders (SUD) have experienced significant trauma, yet stigma frames SUDs as a choice rather than a coping mechanism. When we judge people with SUDs without understanding their roots, we miss opportunities for true healing.

At Crossroads, our trauma-informed approach addresses not just the symptoms but the underlying causes of substance use. Begin your healing journey at crossroadstreatmentcenters.com.
