A few TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) tools of the trade.💫

🪡 ACUPUNCTURE
A treatment of placing very thin and sterile needles into specific points on the body to improve health. It focuses on treating the root cause of disease rather than just managing symptoms while supporting the body’s innate healing mechanisms. Helps by improving circulation, boosting energy, decreasing inflammation, relaxing muscles, calming the nervous system, relieving stress and providing overall balance to the body’s systems.

⚡️ E-STIM
A process where acupuncture needles are attached to a device that delivers gentle electrical impulses between two points. Commonly used to provide a stronger stimulation to the acupuncture points.

🌿 CHINESE HERBS
Chinese herbal medicine is used to promote healing within the body and to treat various health conditions by addressing the root cause of illness. As opposed to Western medicine, the foundation of using Chinese herbal medicine is to support the natural healing mechanisms and abilities.

🔥 CUPPING
A specialized cup (usually made of glass, silicone, or plastic) is placed onto specific areas of the body to create a suction effect. Commonly used for relieving muscle aches and respiratory conditions.

🌀 GUA SHA
Similar effects of cupping, but rather a smooth edge tool is used to scrape along certain areas of the body to relieve tension and stiffness.

Spring is here! 🌱 🌳
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), each season correlates to different organ systems. For spring, this is the season of the liver, gallbladder and the wood element. A time of growth and renewal. Just as plants and animals become awakened with more vibrancy, we as humans are no different coming out from the colder winter months. The natural process for spring is to spend a healthy time outside and move our bodies more. To do this, we require proper nourishment, otherwise we may be sluggish. Spring has an upward energy growth (think plants growing). Proper nourishment means eating foods that help with this including sprouting vegetables and foods that tend to be green in color. Drinking plenty of water is also essential, as well as stretching your body every day. And getting regular acupuncture care can be very helpful in supporting the liver and gallbladder organs to release stagnation, assist detoxification, improve circulation and balance the body’s energy.

GINGER TURMERIC PINEAPPLE IMMUNITY SHOTS
🫚🍍
This is something I like to make at home this time of year and have most days to help keep my immune system strong.

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the immune system is referred to as our wei qi (defensive qi) and protects us from external threats.

Ginger (known as sheng jiang in TCM) is a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and great for digestion (where most of our immune system resides). It’s commonly used in many TCM herbal formulas for a variety of reasons and enters the lung, spleen and stomach pathways.

Turmeric (known as jiang huang in TCM) is also an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant as well as having anti-viral, anti-microbial and anti-cancer properties. This herb in traditional Chinese medicine enters the spleen, stomach and liver pathways.

Pineapple contains bromelain which activates T cells within our immune system for support and also contains a great amount of vitamin C.

If we have a healthy terrain within our body, we will be better at fighting off disease.

These shots are super easy to make. Just add them in a blender with some water, strain afterward so it’s a liquid and enjoy. I like to sprinkle a little cayenne pepper on top of the drink too. Cayenne pepper will add some kick to it and also help with the body’s absorption of the turmeric.

In Chinese medicine, all of these ingredients have been used for thousands of years for their powerful health benefits.

In traditional Chinese medicine, winter is the end of all seasons. It’s a time to rest, self-reflect and store our energy. Winter is related to the water element and the kidney organ system. That means, in order to stay well we must nourish and energize our bodies and that kidney organ in particular. Some foods and spices that I love to incorporate this time of year include bone broth, hearty soups, kidney beans, black beans, dark leafy greens, root vegetables, pears, cherries, walnuts, sea salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Staying away from too many cold and raw foods is helpful. Save those for the spring and summer. Naturally since the weather is cold, we therefore should be staying warm. In Chinese medicine, the kidneys are the powerhouse organ for preserving our energy and promoting longevity, so let’s do our best to keep them strong! 💪

One of my favorite and most commonly used acupuncture points is Spleen 6 (SP6). Helpful for a wide range of reasons and is the intersection of three organ channels including the spleen, kidneys and liver. ⚡️
