🚲 Joy Riders Pittsburgh is bringing back the pure joy of cycling for folks of all ages (3–108!) with limited mobility. Since 2021, about 33 trained volunteers have been offering free electric-assisted bike rides on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail—cruising past PNC Park, riverside monuments, and even rooftop trees! 🌳✨
These rides run May–October, usually start in Millvale, and offer about 235 free trips annually—each one packed with fresh air, conversation, and nostalgia. Riders reminisce, point out city landmarks, and soak in the wind and sunshine.
The bikes? Special Dutch-made Duet models with a bike trailer in front to hold a wheelchair, padded and harnessed for safety.
Inspired by a similar program in Westmoreland County (Always B Smiling), Joy Riders was co-founded by Dianne Stuckman and Margarita Halasowski, supported by the Veterans Leadership Program.
💚 Perfect for: seniors who miss biking, folks with balance issues, or anyone craving an inclusive, scenic ride along Pittsburgh’s waterways.
