Happy World Health Day! 🌍💚 Here in Minnesota we are incredibly fortunate to have access to one of the most inclusive holistic health frameworks in the country — Statute 146A — which protects over 35 different styles of massage and bodywork, including beautiful lineage-based traditions like Lomi Lomi, Thai Massage, Ayurvedic, Mayan Abdominal, and many more.
That diversity is now under direct attack.
• Special interests are pushing SF 1131/1717 — a so-called “voluntary” registration bill that would impose expensive Western-only training ($6,000–$30,000) and an English/Spanish-only exam.
• Most massage therapists are only in the profession for 2–5 years and earn around $25,000/year. This bill would make it even harder for them to stay in business and would effectively erase many cultural healing practices.
The Judiciary & Public Safety Committee hears this bill this Wednesday, April 8 — and they are denying public testimony.
That means our emails and phone calls are the only voice left.
Please take a few minutes today or tomorrow to contact the committee members (https://www.senate.mn/committees/committee_bio.html?ls=94&cmte_id=3128). Your message really matters right now.
Let’s protect Minnesota’s health freedom on World Health Day.
Happy World Health Day! 🌍💚 Today is a global reminder that health care should be accessible, culturally relevant, and truly holistic.
Right here in Minnesota, Statute 146A makes that possible. It protects over 35 different styles of massage and bodywork — Thai, Lomi Lomi, Ayurvedic, Mayan Abdominal, and so many other lineage-based and traditional practices. It allows practitioners to honor their authentic training and gives clients the freedom to choose care that truly fits their culture and needs.
SF1131/1717 threatens exactly that beautiful diversity. It would replace 146A’s inclusivity with expensive Western-only training requirements and an English/Spanish-only exam that shuts out many Hmong, Vietnamese, and other minority practitioners.
