We believe that healing and comfort can come in many forms and music is one of the most powerful. Music Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, psychosocial, psychospiritual, emotional, cognitive, and communication needs of individuals. Our music therapist at Beyond Hospice utilizes a variety of experiences, techniques, and expertise to connect with patients and families, assessing needs, preferences, values, and desires as patients and families navigate the end of life.

If you were to walk into a music therapy session with one of our hospice patients, you might observe the music therapist assisting in pain or anxiety reduction, facilitating live singing of songs of meaning to foster connection to others or self, providing support during reminiscence and life review, or leading a songwriting experience to assist a patient or family member in expressing and processing important life topics and themes. Every music therapy session is as unique as our patients. Goals are person-centered and aligned with the needs, desires, and background of each person.

Spiritual Care Team Members Spotlight!
Together, Rachel Fine Shapiro and Zac Willette bring deep wisdom, compassion, and decades of experience to their work.

Rachel Fine Shapiro, MA, CPE trained at Mayo Eau Claire and United, Advanced Spiritual Director Training, and Training in Sacred Art of Living and Dying. Was a Spiritual Director for 10 years, and has taught graduate courses in spiritual development, grief and loss. Has also taught graduate level Human Development at St Mary's University with specialties in Women's Spirituality and Jewish Spiritual Development.

Zac Willette M.Div, BCC, Board Certified Chaplain with a background in education, international work and experience serving people in two of Chicago’s most intense ER and Trauma Centers. Immediately before founding Allay Care, Zac served as head of Spiritual Care for Ascension, one of the nation’s leading nonprofit health systems. He earned a teaching degree at Vanderbilt University and a theology degree at Boston College.

Their presence is a gift—to all who seek comfort, connection, and meaning.
