Our “Mentorship in Motion” series continues, and this time we’re shining the spotlight on Jersey City Medical Center's Carmen C. and RWJBarnabas Health's Brian R.!

RWJBarnabas Health launched our system-wide Mentorship Program in October 2025, recognizing that mentorship is key for career wellbeing. To date, the program has 400+ combined mentee and mentor participants. “Mentorship in Motion” highlights some of our stories of shared learning and support.

Substance use prevention starts in childhood. One prevention strategy, known as Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs), focuses on everyday experiences for children. This can be as simple as being a positive, stable figure in a child's life.

We know children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and well-connected. By creating environments where youth feel valued and included, communities can play a vital role in lowering substance use, reducing mental health challenges, and promoting overall well-being.

Knowing the maternal warning signs, what to look for both pre and post-partum, are key to a successful pregnancy and keeping mom safe.

On Maternal Health Awareness Day, the Obstetrics’ Chairs at our nine birthing hospitals share life-saving messages about urgent maternal warning signs.

“Protecting mothers’ lives is a top priority at our health system. Every mother deserves safe, respectful, high-quality care—before, during, and after pregnancy,” says Suzanne Spernal, Senior Vice President, Women’s Services at RWJBarnabas Health.

Teamwork is at the heart of what we do! Today, our Community-Based Peer Recovery team assembled hundreds of naloxone kits. Together, we’re working to reduce opioid-related deaths and addiction stigma.

Naloxone is a lifesaving opioid overdose medication. Our naloxone kits provide hope to individuals, families and communities across the state.
