Welcome!
Swāyé: to heal (Haitian creole) is a project grown out of a prayer for the deeper healing of our People. In Oakland, police brutality, failed city systems, gentrification, food and health insecurity have led to an unprecedented level of displacement and depression for many of us. Swāyé hopes to be a space where the People can come for healing trauma and deepen our inherent connection to the Earth and many of Her plant medicine allies.
This prayer was laid by our Ancestors and both Kanchan Dawn Hunter (Spiral Gardens) and Sarah Kirnon (Miss Ollie’s) feel honored to have been chosen for that prayer to come through!
Swāyé is a medicine garden. We are growing a variety of strong medicinal plants that will be used to make medicinal preparations of all kinds. The preparations will be sold at prices reflecting their high quality so that those that need them the most will be able to receive them for low cost or free.
Classes will be offered so folx can learn about the beneficial properties of the plants, how to grow and tend them, harvesting and medicine making as well as how to use them. Special emphasis will be given to connecting with the Earth and the plants as a way to strengthen our resilience through Earth based practices recalling a more ancestral way of living and moving on our sweet planet.
