What joy it is to await the welcoming of new life, to be in the present and connect with life inside of you as they make their journey to be in your arms. Family pregnancy photos are maybe some of my most favourites.

4 years since we said goodbye. This photo was a gut-punch when I came upon it the other time. One of the happiest days of my life was also my dad’s, you can see it in his smile here. This photo was a reminder I’d never see his smile again.

Nothing pi**ed my dad off more than when someone asked him “why you look so angry”. He had a naturally grumpy resting face (see photo 3) but was actually a goofball at heart. He lived life hard & lived for all the big and small moments.

爸、I miss you and I wish you were here to see your grandkids grow up. Your memory is in the food we eat, the songs we sing and the places we go. Thanks for teaching me to try everything once.

Grief - they say it gets easier, that the sadness gets smaller as the years go by. What really happens is we grow around our grief, we get better at putting it aside when we need to.

I had always wondered what life would be like with the loss of a parent, that if I gave it enough thought I could brace myself when it happened. Nothing could have prepared for this dad-shaped hole that is overwhelming and unwanted.

My dad and I had a complicated relationship as most kids do, but we were also close & had a shared love of food & travel. I miss him most when I catch a glimmer of him in my kids, when I think about how he would have loved to see them grow up, when I sing them a song he used to sing me.

Grief - it’s ever-changing and evolving, but it never gets smaller.

Today we went to check out some tide-pools in Montara, being by the ocean helps me feel closer to my dad. And on this day each year, and the days approaching, I allow myself to feel my grief deeply, and cry for the father I loved, and the grandfather my kids should still have.

10 years ago today with the one I chose to do forever with. Dressed in finely printed & embroidered Peranakan clothing in an array of colours that burst to life, our friends and family came together to celebrate our union. The location honoured our Singapore Heritage & also David’s dad love for the location.

What a day it was, with David having to “gatecrash”, eat all kinds of wild concoctions and sing Bohemian Rhapsody with his support crew. Offering tea to our elders as a sign of respect, and simply having fun!

Thank you for the last 10 years together. What a journey it has been!

Loving this super unposed photo, one of the last shots of the day after 90 minutes of trying to get the kids to cooperate for photographs. Sometimes, all you need is a good tickle and gentle rough-housing.

It was a rare occasion that family from across the world came to visit, & grandparents & great aunts were also visiting. A family photoshoot is such a great way to celebrate this momentous occasion!

This was the largest family photoshoot I have done to date - chasing & wrangling kids while coordinating adults & making sure we got all the shots in was no mean feat. But look at this photo! It was all so worth it, and be again I am humbled to be chosen for the job. Every person in this shoot was so amazing & the photos came together so nicely.

This is me at nap time, not much has changed except that my baby is bigger & does things like kick me in the face as they nurse to sleep. 13 months on and we still do contact naps, and when I say contact, I mean my baby nurses the whole time.

I share this in hopes of normalising contact naps and nursing our babies to sleep, and I say this from a position of privilege. I am able to afford the time to do this instead of going to work, but I am unable to afford a nanny so this is our lives.

It took having 3 kids for me to finally let go of expectations around sleep for my kids, feeling frustrated, isolated and unstable because I couldn’t get anything done & my kids wouldn’t adhere to anything the “sleep experts” said.

I choose to listen to my baby & my intuition, and our bond and attachment is so strong. Do I get touched out and wish it were different sometimes? Heck yes! But I k ow that continuously trying to get my baby to sleep independently is more harmful to my mental health than just going with it.

If you’re in a similar situation, know that it is not forever. It’s ok to listen to your baby’s needs, you’re not spoiling them. Cherish the moments together, one day they will sleep independently, I promise.

Minis are a great way to get some special moments captured at an affordable rate and perfectly timed for a toddler’s attention span. I try to keep the energy up to keep the vibe positive for the littles, but most of the time you see their light shine through when they’re with their favourite people.

I was enamoured by this mama-daughter duo right from the start, their love and connection was magical you could practically see the sparkles.

I won’t lie, these minis are special to me too, especially when I get to see the littles grow year after year.

I’ve had the pleasure and honour of participating in ’s annual photo contest and won twice in different categories. I’m pleased to be able to give back as a judge.

If you are a photographer, I highly recommend entering this contest! They work really hard at building awareness & education around birth, and more than that, spread inclusivity for families of all kinds.

Plans for Minis are underway, and the setup is going to be a little different this year! Im going to be focusing on sunset shoots at two locations, so spaces are extremely limited due time constraints with the Golden Hour. Keep an eye out for dates coming out soon!
