Caregiving is a full-time job—and for millions, it’s their second one.
The newly released 2025 Caregiving in the U.S. report confirms what HR leaders and benefit teams are seeing firsthand:
70% of caregivers are working
50% report disruptions to their job—arriving late, leaving early, or missing work altogether
31% have drained their short-term savings
22% have taken on more debt
And despite the growing need, only 49% of working caregivers say their supervisor even knows they’re a caregiver.
At Mellie, we meet this reality every day. Behind these stats are parents, spouses, and adult children struggling to stay afloat at home and at work.
Caregiver-friendly policies aren’t just nice to have—they’re essential to retention, productivity, and equity in the workplace. Employers have the power to make a difference.
Let’s stop asking employees to choose between their paycheck and their parent, their child, or their spouse.
