Dr. Shanara Ellis is a registered psychological associate with advanced training in perinatal and women’s mental health, medical trauma, and health equity. Her clinical expertise includes perinatal and postpartum adjustment, trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, racial stress, and identity transitions. She is especially committed to working with BIPOC women and birthing people navigating the emotional challenges and systemic barriers that shape health and healing. Dr. Ellis’s approach integrates trauma-informed and culturally responsive care with systems-level strategies to expand access to equitable mental health services.

Deeper Than Color is growing. 🌱

We are thrilled to welcome Shanara Ellis, PsyD to our team as a Registered Psychological Associate specializing in perinatal mental health, women's mental health, and health equity.

Dr. Ellis brings advanced training from her postdoctoral fellowship at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, where she specialized in perinatal mental health and NICU psychology. Her work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in Liberation Psychology — centering the full humanity of BIPOC women and birthing people navigating reproductive transitions, racial stress, and systemic barriers to care.

She is now accepting individuals, parents, and families in California. If you or someone you love is seeking support for postpartum mental health, anxiety or depression, transitions, or are dealing with issues related to identity, Dr. Ellis is available.

We are so excited to have Dr. Brianna Baker Ph.D. on the team at Deeper Than Color: Social Justice & Strength-Based Psychotherapy and Consulting!

Dr. Brianna Baker is a pre-licensed psychologist whose clinical focus includes trauma, relational healing, and women’s mental health across the lifespan. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, where she specialized in Black family systems, identity development, and prevention science. Throughout her work, Dr. Baker has provided psychotherapy to individuals and families dealing with trauma, depression, family stress, and identity-related issues. Her work is rooted in a culturally responsive and relational approach that thoughtfully considers how social context, culture, and social systems influence emotional well-being. She is committed to creating a space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to heal and grow.

Dr. Cheryl Ellis is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Hartford, Connecticut. Over the past 30 years, she has provided individual, group, and family psychotherapy across outpatient clinics, community-based programs, in-home reunification services, inpatient settings, and school-based clinics. Her clinical expertise includes supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families in navigating depression, trauma, and the impact of gendered and racialized stress.
