We now have more evidence that supports that breastfeeding is in fact safe and beneficial to babies whose mothers have been positive or exposed to COVID-19.

Antibodies have been found in breastmilk. The virus is not transmitted via breast milk so there is no need to fear. Precautions should still be taken like wearing a mask and washing hands frequently but breastfeeding should resume.

It’s Black Maternal Health Week April 11th-17th

This Pandemic is revealing the truths about racial discrimination and disparities in health care. We’ve long known that in the cases of Black Maternal mortality and morbidity that racism was intact a factor. To change this we must change how health care is practiced and delivered. Better health comes for Black women inevitably translates to better outcomes for all.

Choices in when where and how we birth, access to racially concordat care when desired and truly informed consent so we know how to advocate and make decisions for ourselves, weighing the risks and benefits.

As a Black mother and healthcare professionals I’ve been on both sides of the table. In my practice I strive to provide the best care to all of my patients and clients regardless of race, language, culture and economic status.
