The vagus nerve is involved modulating digestion, breathing, mood, and heart rate. When stimulated, this nerve can help calm your body which can be helpful during moments when you’re feeling nervous or unsettled.

One way to stimulate your vagus nerve is to hum. You can hum a random tune, a song that you love, or hum various tones of your own choosing. Feel into the sensations as you hum.

Take a moment to give this a try!

We have many opportunities in a day to turn toward, turn away, and turn against our partner(s). We can be critical, or not. We can be defensive, or not. The more we are able to demonstrate care for our partners and treat them like we love them (even when they frustrate us), the easier it will be to have thoughtful communication as a core part of the relationship.

At the lower right of the text is a small black text that credits the owner, "—bell hooks (All About Love: New Visions)". At the bottom right is a small black text, “”.]
