My dear friend, preceptor and Nurse Sister Carleen Armstrong RN MSN FNP, is raising money for her home, Jamaica. She has helped 1000s in our community, its time to give back to hers.

They are recovering from a historic storm event: Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane (sustained winds around 185 mph) — among the strongest ever recorded to hit the island.

The storm moved across Jamaica and then headed toward Cuba and the Bahamas.

They have massive damage: one of the worst in Jamaica’s history. Widespread power outages affected hundreds of thousands of people.

Significant flooding, landslides, structural damage especially in the south-western parish of St Elizabeth Parish.

Officials warned of “total building failures” in some areas. The death toll is still being assessed but reports suggest multiple fatalities in Jamaica and across the region.

Representing my son's HBCU at the Hospital today. He chose to follow my footsteps in to the medical field - he chose Nursing major with PreMed minor.

This Sunday, like everyday, I will be praying for him - the FULL HBCU experience, successful completion of his RN program and career satisfaction; as I thoroughly enjoy my profession and I hope he will too.

I told him there are so many possibilities of life but with a great foundation, you can be the man you want to be. At minimal...you can work 3 days a week, feed your family and live a fulfilled life with job security and stability. You will go through many obstacles of life but as long as you protect your license, you'll keep a liveable wage...and as a 'Black Man', you can't gain a better promise.

Even if you want to be WHATEVER...Influencer, Sports...GAMER...PODCASTER..or whatever these kids do these days...'DREAM' but make THIS your foundation. No matter where you go - you'll always have a job.

Can't get any better than that - follow me son, 'I got you'.

We Nurses work hard to maintain our security and stability but it really starts in the home. I nurture my marriage and family just as much as I do my patients. But home comes first, ALWAYS.

I worked 8hrs each day this week then rushed home to date my supportive husband and attend my nephew's graduation and dinner.

Never too tired for my family and their milestones.

Late post. Every year, I experience a profound sense of sadness on my father's birthday, even though he has been gone for nearly a decade, which feels like an eternity. Two years ago, I commenced performing acts of service to pay tribute to him.

This year, I had the privilege of being invited to speak at Los Medanos College alongside John Muir Hospital's Black Caucus. It was a tremendous honor to represent nurses of color who serve diverse communities with equity.
