My Charge Nurse and I grew up in the same area...same friends and all. 6 degree of separation. You never know who you are talking to in the workplace or community....treat everyone with kindness - should have known, loved her on day 1!

We Nurses work hard to maintain our security and stability but it really starts in the home. I nurture my marriage and family just as much as I do my patients. But home comes first, ALWAYS.

I worked 8hrs each day this week then rushed home to date my supportive husband and attend my nephew's graduation and dinner.

Never too tired for my family and their milestones.

Late post. Every year, I experience a profound sense of sadness on my father's birthday, even though he has been gone for nearly a decade, which feels like an eternity. Two years ago, I commenced performing acts of service to pay tribute to him.

This year, I had the privilege of being invited to speak at Los Medanos College alongside John Muir Hospital's Black Caucus. It was a tremendous honor to represent nurses of color who serve diverse communities with equity.

Forget the resolutions...JUST GET IT DONE.

2025 feels different. Whatever you've been wanting to do, I suggest you get started. It's time to see some serious change in your life. You owe it to those who aren't here, who didn't make it to this illustrious new year.

Nothing is difficult in life; it's EFFORT, TIME, and CONSISTENCY where people fall short. If you NEED a resolution, start there. With those 3 things, whatever you are set to conquer will come to full fruition.

Make this year great for YOU and no one else.

Happy New Year 2025!

Southern University and A&M College's School of Nursing,( Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge, LA ) a historical black college and university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, marked a milestone with the largest class of Black male nurses in the university's history. This is huge within the nursing profession as a whole.

Only 9.9% of nurses in the United States are African American (AA) and African African males make up only 0.67% - less than a percent.

Diversity in the nursing workforce is necessary to promote evidence-based care of people seeking medical and behavioral services. Does race matter? Yes.

Research has proven that the inability to properly identify and address disparities in health and health care is not only due to racism, social and economic inequities but also stems from lack of representation in the field. In order to provide optimal cultural competent care, hospitals and clinics must start with promoting a reflective workforce of the patients and families that is served within their communities.

In order to solve these disparities, we must strengthen the pool which starts in the education sector. This university is doing their part and should be the example for other nursing programs/admissions to follow. We need more African American nurses as a whole; women and MEN.

Hats off to this illustrious institution.👏🏾

And I'm proud to announce that my son left this summer to attend Southern University to one day be a part of one of these male cohorts, as a second generation (M)URSE. I love being a nurse and I pray he enjoys it as much as I do. The flexibility and security is amazing but to know you've changed someone's life daily, is the greatest reward!

Love, A Jaguar Mom!

Listen, I know we are all juiced about the upcoming debate and election. And me, I dont usually discuss politics because people get emotional and no one wins or learns when emotions take over a discussion.

Don't use social media or your friend groups to control your vote. What may be important for you might not be their concern. Your struggles are your own and may not be the same as your peers.

While you are all deciding on the President, I hope you are educating yourselves on how the government truly works. Whether you choose to vote Democratic, Republican or Freedom party know they do not make laws. The legislative branch does.

The President is the executive branch. They enforce laws or in some cases if they don't agree can veto which has to be voted on and is rarely overturned, which is what was Obama's issue or write an executive order which is frowned upon which was Trump's issue because then it's a dictatorship.

In order for us to truly see change, you need to vote every 2 years versus 4. Moreover you need to vote your party so they can be the majority in congress when establishing new laws. The laws that effect our every day lives...wages, housing, interest rates, education, Healthcare and etc.

I am excited too but do your research. Dust off that old American Government textbook or buy used on Amazon and get to work. You have a couple weeks to do it✊🏽👊🏿🙌🏾

P O W E R F U L! Jordan Chiles was ready to quit gymnastics. She had been passed over for big assignments year after year due to lack of consistency. The environment was toxic, and many in the gymnastics community had written her off. But Simone said, I see you Queen. In 2019, Simone invited Jordan to relocate from Washington to Texas to join the gym that she OWNS- a safe space with a positive environment. When Jordan arrived, the first thing they worked on was not building her skills but instead building her confidence. Two years later, Simone and Jordan are headed to the Olympics together. This is what we mean by lift as you climb. Trophies are nice but the biggest flex is winning together and creating an environment where others thrive too!

I always thought I would become a Lawyer but I guess I chose to become a different type of advocate.

Everyday I go home knowing I have changed the lives of my patients and their families, making it easier to care for them and maintain and promote positive health outcomes for themselves.. To be in position to diminish health disparities, causing equity amongst all patients regardless of color, is the best take away in my profession. Medical care should be heavily objective vs subjective to save time and money for the patient and their providers.

My license belongs to ME no matter who and where I work. Being a RN maybe security but being a RN Inpatient Case Manager is POWER!

Career Satisfaction🥰
