Cardio or elopement drills? 😅🏃🏃‍♀️💨

Our Miami team is working hard and playing hard this year! 😤

⬇️ Elopement Resources ⬇️

Proactive Strategies to Prevent Elopement:

1. Adding visual boundaries to define physical spaces
2. Securing exits/using alarms or visual cues
3. Implementing preferential seating
4. Equipping students with tools like break cards or communication devices to express their needs
5. Teaching students to verbally or nonverbally request help, breaks, or attention to reduce the need for elopement

Team PBS Central Florida writes:

P.A.I.R.I.N.G. — because connection comes before correction.

We talk about 'pairing' all the time in ABA, but it's more than just rapport-building.

It's how we show up-with intention, empathy, and consistency.

And honestly, it's something we can all be reminded of, no matter how long we've been in the field. Here's what pairing really looks like in practice:

P - Presence. Be fully there.

Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. No multitasking, no mental to-do lists—just you and them.

A - Acceptance. Meet your client exactly where they are, not where you wish they were. No judgment. No pressure.

I - Interest. Get curious. What lights them up? What makes them laugh? Show up like someone who wants to know them.

R - Respect. Respect their feelings, their space, their preferences-even on hard days.

I - Invitation. Connection is earned, not forced. Invite them to engage rather than push for compliance. Autonomy matters.

N - Nurturing. Create safety—emotionally and physically. Trust doesn't grow in cold environments.

G - Grace. For them, and for yourself. Because progress is never linear and neither is connection.

Pairing isn't just a phase—it's a mindset. And the good news? You can practice it every single day.

Share your pairing tips below! ⬇️

Meet Meagan! 👏🙂‍↕️

Meagan is a current Student Analyst with our Middle Georgia team.

Meagan L Earl has been with PBS since March 2020 (almost 6 years!), serving clients in the Middle Georgia area. During her time with PBS, she has served more than a dozen clients in the home, school, and daycare settings. In July of 2022, she began her role as a Student Analyst, enrolling at Purdue University Global in their Master's in Applied Behavior Analysis program. She graduated with her masters in December of 2024 and plans to sit for her exam to become a BCBA at the start of 2026.

We're wishing Meagan all the best as she prepares to sit for her BCBA exam this year! We're so thankful to have you as a dedicated member of our team.

Are you a student analyst? Check out these unrestricted activities for February as we reflect on our cultural humility in behavior analysis. Cultural humility is a practice of lifelong learning, self-reflection of what we don’t know, listening before leading, and shared collaboration with the families we serve. 🗺️ Check back here monthly for more opportunities for unrestricted activities! Take these ideas to your supervising analyst and see how you can apply for your clients.

Our Student Analyst program at PBS is working towards our mission of turning competent and enthusiastic people into proficient professionals! Want to know more about our student analyst program? Email shelee@teampbs.com to find out more! You can also apply now at www.teampbs.com.

Ethical ABA isn’t the easy route. And honestly, that’s kind of the point.

It means slowing down, listening more, and meeting your child exactly where they are. It means using better assessments, better teaching strategies, and bringing a healthy dose of humility to the table. No one has this all figured out on day one.

Ethical ABA puts safety first, both physical and emotional, because kids learn best when they feel secure.

It offers meaningful choices, not the illusion of choice, but real opportunities for kids to have a say in their day.

It supports self expression, helping children communicate their needs, feelings, and boundaries in ways that actually work for them.

And it values social validity, focusing on skills that matter in real life, not just skills that look good on a data sheet.

This work takes time, collaboration, and patience. Sometimes a lot of patience. But when ABA is done ethically, the goal is not to change who a child is. The goal is to help them feel safe, heard, and capable in their world. 💛

Student Analyst Spotlight! 🥳🎉

Ashley Williams is a current Student Analyst with Team PBS East Georgia. Read more as she shares her experience in our Student Analyst Mentoring Program:

"I am a dedicated Student Analyst at PBS in East Georgia, where I have been an active team member since 2022. In 2019 I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science from Misericordia University and certification in Addictions and Counseling. I went on to continue my education, completing my Master of Science degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis at National University in 2023. Child-led play means letting your child choose the activity, pace, and direction of play while you join in and support them.

We all know that children learn best when they are interested and motivated. What better way to achieve this than to join what they already find reinforcing!

In child-led play, your child will experience less resistance and frustration. They will also begin to see that you are paying attention to them, that their ideas matter, and that spending time together is FUN, not stressful.

By building this rapport with your child, it opens the door to them feeling safe in trying new things, communicating with you, and working on new social skills.

Comment down below with some ways you've practiced child-led play at home! :)
