BIOGRAPHY

Carla McClellan, MPH is a consultant based in the San Francisco Bay Area, but available for projects nationwide. Her expertise is in research and evaluation, program planning, grant writing, and public speaking. Carla began her educational path in social work at the Florida State University, ultimately working as a forensic case manager with a caseload of over 80 individuals diagnosed w

ith mental illness, substance use issues, and involved in the justice system. She then went on to pursue a master’s degree in Public Health at the University of South Florida and completed Doctoral level education in the fields of research methods and biostatistics. During her time at USF, she completed hands on projects by conducting research with adolescents in the justice system, as well as prescription drug abuse research, and assisting in prevention programs for women with HIV/AIDS and Native American youth. Most recently, Carla worked with multiple programs at the Native American Health Center in Oakland, CA. She assisted in creating the Native Youth Wellness Initiative strategic plan, which is a su***de prevention grant. Her duties expanded to cross-site evaluation activities, community-based participatory research, and public speaking engagements discussing the issues pertinent to this community. Carla also assisted with the Urban Native Center for Life Empowerment (UNCLE) and Integrated Care. UNCLE focuses on screening, assessment, treatment and referral of youth with trauma. Carla coordinated data collection and evaluation activities for UNCLE, as well as serving as a liaison at the National level with the National Center for Traumatic Stress Network. Finally, Carla has been instrumental in launching the integrated care program at the Native American Health Center. From program planning, to policy creation, to evaluation planning, and sustainability, she has co-coordinated and evaluated Integrated Care since it’s inception at the Health Center. Carla is passionate about integrated care, substance use issues, children and youth, and community-based participatory research. While she specializes in research and evaluation, she also contributes a great deal in the areas of grant writing and public speaking. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, American Indian Alaska Native Caucus, and is active in her church as a youth group advisory board coordinator.
