Suzannah Neufeld, MFT (MFC #44759), RYT 500 is a licensed psychotherapist and certified yoga therapist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders/body image/food concerns, substance abuse, trauma recovery, and supporting people through pregnancy and early parenthood. Her work is rooted in evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches and mind-body practices including yoga/somatic therapy, dia

lectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), existential therapy, expressive arts therapy, and family-based therapy for eating disorders (FBT). On the yoga mat, Suzannah teaches a sweet, slow, and sometimes strong style of moving through poses with breath. She includes passive yin or restorative poses in every session. She believes deeply in supporting each person to listen mindfully and compassionately to their own body’s wisdom and to discover the unique alignment and form that give them the most space for growth. Each pose becomes an opportunity to make peace with one’s body. Suzannah seeks to provide an inclusive, noncompetitive environment that is welcoming of all bodies.

Coming out here on IG with a new offering that I am so happy to share!

My dear colleagues , and I invite you to join us for a daylong women’s* IM Ketamine Retreat on Sunday, July 24th in Berkeley(*all self-identified women, trans, and non-binary folks most welcome!).

We offer this daylong ketamine retreat at the Alembic Foundation’s beautiful new center as a time out of our busy lives to explore a non-ordinary state of consciousness in a supportive women’s circle. Ketamine provides an opportunity to slow down, rest, renew, heal, connect to inner wisdom, and find connection.

Ketamine will be delivered by intramuscular injection (“IM”). Our approach is a “low and slow” dosing method, meaning we start with a low dose to allow for a gentle, mindful transition, with an option to later deepen or expand the experience. Throughout the day, we will also have time to care for our bodies, hearts, and minds with group discussions, meditation, gentle movement, and nourishing food. We will incorporate ceremonial elements that support well-being, transformation, and collective attunement. Group orientation, Q&A and check-ins before and after our retreat will help integrate new insights and ways of being back into our ordinary lives.

Space Is Limited to 12 Individuals
Cost: $600-800 per person, sliding scale
To Register, e-mail:

Integrating FBT and EFFT for Eating Disorders - In my experience...

Three-hour training with Suzannah Neufeld, MFT
June 1, 2022 • 9:00am - 12:00pm PST

Offering wisdom and techniques from her personal training and experience, Suzannah designed this training for clinicians looking to integrate the FBT and EFFT models in their work supporting and empowering families facing eating disorders. In this 3 hour workshop, there will be lecture and time for practice. Clinicians will learn:

-How the stances of the two approaches complement one another.
-How to use the case conceptualization tool to choose the format and interventions
-How to use specific EFFT tools in FBT including: Caregiver Traps, Script-building, and Caregiver Block Chair-work
-How to use clinician block work to process clinician fears, insecurities, and obstacles to doing this potentially challenging and yet deeply rewarding work with families.

It may not feel like food freedom, but more like food monotony (seriously, we have to do food 6 times a day?).

I very much want to spread hope for healing, but sometimes I worry that when the message of awareness focuses on hope instead of on having compassion for people suffering, it can seem like recovery should be easy or joyful or perfect. And that anyone who doesn’t feel that way is not doing it right.

People and families with EDs need time and safety and treatment and food and love and lots and lots of support to heal, and sometimes that’s not all readily available.

If you aren’t feeling excited about recovery, I see you, and I’m sending love. You aren’t alone or weird or or stupid or bad or hopeless. This is an illness, not a moral failing, and it’s tough stuff. I hope we as a field keep working towards developing more treatments to make recovery easier but for now we don’t so it’s a one day at a time kinda thing. You rock for every step you take toward healing. You deserve all the compassion, patience, and support.

It’s Eating Disorders Awareness Week! I am breaking my pandemic-long avoidance of social media to share a few things I want to raise awareness about. First up, if there is one thing I most want people to know about eating disorders, it is that you cannot tell who has an eating disorder by looking at them. Not by body size, age, gender, race, or even what they eat in public space. I really want to highlight the “not by body size” part. Not only that, but you can’t tell what eating disorder, how severe, or how sick someone is by looking. I know this might be SUPER confusing because everything most of us have been taught in our culture and medical system is that people have to look emaciated to have an eating disorder and especially to have a serious eating disorder. Nope. Eating disorders live in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, not in body size. People of all sizes large to small can have all eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa (even by DSM criteria). If you sat outside my therapy room (or on my telehealth screen these days), you’d truly have no idea what I specialize in. Everyone with an eating disorder deserves compassion and care.

Hi all! Please join me--I'll be interviewed at this upcoming virtual event with the lovely Amy Looper, who will be talking about anxiety and motherhood. My hope is to share ways to find self-compassion for anxiety, for moving with anxiety, and for taking care of yourself amidst all the demands modern parenting brings. The other speakers look amazing!

Thank you so much, Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, CDN for this important piece. I'm sending love and solidarity to anyone I know in a higher weight body that might be feeling scared, ashamed, injured, or infuriated by "news" about COVID & weight. Fatphobia is a virus itself, deeply contagious, causing serious illness and death. Let's immunize ourselves by challenging ourselves to stand up against anti-fat bias and oppression. (And I am not posting this for a debate, just for those who want info to help bring some more liberation into the world! Please please please do not write anti-fat stuff in my comments--it will be harmful to me, my friends, our community. I'm not here for that.) Link here:

The claim that those with higher BMIs are at special risk of dying from the coronavirus is grossly overstated.
