Last week, Native American Health Center celebrated the Grand Opening of Flicker — a project rooted in years of vision, partnership, and belief in what our community deserves.

Built in partnership with Satellite Affordable Housing Associates - SAHA, Flicker brings affordable housing, expanded dental care, and a cultural community center together under one roof in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood.

This building represents investment in our community, in our future generations, and in creating spaces where Natives and all underserved families can access care, gather, and grow stronger together.

Thank you to every partner, donor, advocate, and supporter who helped make Flicker possible. 🧡

For years, our community watched Flicker rise from the ground in Fruitvale. On May 17th, we finally opened the doors and welcomed our community inside. 💙

At our Flicker Dental Open House, we saw children getting their faces painted, families touring the clinic, community members signing up for dental care, and generations gathering together in a space built for them.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us. After years of planning, dreaming, and building, it was powerful to finally see this space filled with the people it was created for.

Flicker Dental officially opens June 1. 🙌🦬

Seven Generations (7G) Scholarship applications close tonight at midnight!

To close out the 10 year celebration of our 7G scholarship, we're celebrating alum, Shyh Saenz! Shyh is Northern Cheyenne and graduated with a degree in Communication Studies and Promotions.

Today, Shyh serves as the Chief of Staff at Operativo, a campaign strategy and mobilization firm, where she helps organizations, advocates, and artists turn ideas into action through work focused on climate action, public engagement, political campaigns, and advancing diverse representation.

Shyh shared that the 7G Scholarship had a meaningful impact on her educational journey by easing financial stress and connecting her to a strong network of peers, mentors, and community support. She said the scholarship helped her stay focused on her studies while also providing encouragement, opportunities, and a sense of belonging throughout college.

Since receiving the scholarship, Shyh has continued giving back through advocacy and community engagement. Most recently, she spoke on her first panel at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) End-of-Year Annual Conference in Las Vegas, where she discussed the importance of Native stories and representation in America250’s Semiquincentennial celebration.

As we honor a decade of the Seven Generations Scholarship, we’re proud to support leaders like Shyh who continue to create meaningful impact across communities. 🎓

Our Indigenous Red Market is back! Enjoy performances by AudioPharmacy, Liv Rion, lil Ø, Sonoma County Pomo Dancers, and our local Powwow dancers. Plus, DJ KG returns!

This will be our final Market of 2026, and it’s going to be a special one. Right across the street, you can also visit our Flicker Dental Open House (11am-2pm) at our brand new building. We’ve been talking about this space for years—watching it rise from the very lot where the Indigenous Red Market started. Now, you’re invited to step inside and see this new site for our community to gather and heal.

As scholarship applications close this week, we're continuing our series honoring Seven Generations (7G) Scholarship alumni. Today, we're highlighting JoAnne Lee! JoAnne is a member of the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California and graduated from Law School in May 2025.

Today, JoAnne works at the California Tribal Families Coalition, supporting Native communities through advocacy and community-centered work. She shared that the 7G Scholarship played a meaningful role in helping her stay focused on her education and public-interest work while navigating the financial demands of law school.

JoAnne explained that the scholarship allowed her to pursue opportunities connected to tribal law advocacy, policy research, and community-based legal work that aligned directly with her long-term goals of serving Native and historically underserved communities. Beyond financial support, she shared that the scholarship represented an investment in her potential and commitment to giving back.

As we celebrate 10 years of the Seven Generations Scholarship, we’re honored to support Native students like JoAnne as they work toward careers rooted in justice, equity, and service. 🪶

Today, we're highlighting Seven Generations (7G) Scholarship alum, Victoria Partida-Young! Victoria is Taos Pueblo, Jicarilla Apache, Eastern Band Cherokee, and Choctaw, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Biomedical Laboratory Sciences option and a minor in Chemistry.

Today, Victoria works at Highland Hospital as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. She shared that the 7G Scholarship not only helped ease the financial burden of school, but also reminded her that she had community support behind her throughout her journey. Over the years, the scholarship helped cover books, tuition, and student loan expenses that allowed her to continue pursuing her education.

Since receiving the scholarship, Victoria has stayed active in community through powwows, gatherings, and volunteering several times a week at IFH as a tutor for high school youth.

Fun fact: Victoria was also one of the first people to help manage the 7G Scholarship in 2016, even helping secure one of the program’s early donations through cold calls to local businesses!

As we celebrate 10 years of the Seven Generations Scholarship, we’re proud to see alumni like Victoria continuing to uplift community and support future generations. 🧡
