Lincoln Families

Lincoln Families Lincoln is a mental health organization with 13 programs that disrupt cycles of trauma & poverty, empowering kids & families to build strong futures.

Since our founding in 1883 as the first racially integrated orphanage in Northern California, Lincoln Families has impacted the lives of children and families through evolving programs. Today, we provide preventative, individualized and comprehensive support services with a focus on three core areas that disrupt cycles of poverty and trauma:

Education:
Addressing obstacles that impact academic attendance and achievement

Family:
Strengthening stability and creating permanency

Well-Being:
Improving resiliency and wellness

How We Do It
Every day, in communities throughout our region, Lincoln Families is providing real solutions to the unique issues our children, youth and families face. At Lincoln, we go where children and youth are, helping them to develop skills to stay at home and in school. Teams of skilled and diverse staff work together with youth and families to utilize their strengths and build a plan for success. With this critical support, our children, youth and families thrive and build bold futures. Only Lincoln Families has a culturally relevant, adaptive approach that meets the needs of children and families. Our multi-generational model sets a new standard of support that changes lives.

Repost Today begins Arab-American Heritage Month, the most recent heritage month to receive national designation. The U.S. Department of State and President Biden officially recognized April as AAHM in 2021 and 2023 following an initiative by Arab America and the Arab America Foundation in 2017. The 2026 AAHM theme, selected by the Arab America Foundation, is “Many Voices, One Community,” which simultaneously honors the cultural, religious, and linguistic diversity of the Arab-American community and the 22 Arab nations to which they trace their heritage, as well as reinforces the strength in their presence as a unified community. During this month, The Office of Multicultural Affairs holds space to both celebrate the triumphs and contributions of Arab-Americans in the United States and recognize an ongoing struggle against discrimination and Islamophobia. Stay tuned for upcoming programming throughout the month.

As part of a March interview series led by Diahanna Post, 15 inspiring women leaders are each answering three questions in just 10 minutes—reflecting on how this year’s theme, , resonates in the age of AI.

In this series, Lincoln Families’ President and CEO, Allison Becwar, shares her perspective as a leader driving our mission to disrupt cycles of poverty and trauma while empowering families to build strong, resilient futures.

“Our ethos is centered on asking: how can AI help us become more efficient by reducing the distractions that pull us away from meaningful relationships? If we can eliminate the noise that gets in the way of simply showing up and being present with others, that’s where we see its greatest value.”

They get into:
💡 The investment someone made in her that changed everything
⚡ How AI is actually being used right now — and what we do with the time it gives back
🤝 What it really takes to stay human as we scale with AI

Watch now and tell me — what resonates with you?

Get • Deep gratitude to for honoring Lincoln’s Director of West Oakland Programs , Chris Nguon, with the Community Builder Award — made even more meaningful with recognition from Mayor Barbara Lee’s office.

This moment means a lot. Not just as an award, but as a reflection of what community looks like in action — especially coming from AfroPlay Oakland, whose work continues to uplift and affirm little ones and their families from the diaspora in powerful ways.

Three years ago, our vision at the Mandela FRC was simple: bring AfroPlay’s impact to West Oakland. Today, that partnership is thriving, and the results speak for themselves.

To be recognized alongside leaders like Selena Wilson (EOYDC), Kevin Hill (Brotherhood of Elders), Jack Watkins (East Oakland Collective), and the great Mychal Threets (Reading Rainbow) is both humbling and inspiring.

We’re grateful, we’re energized, and we’re committed to continuing this work.

Thank you to the entire AfroPlay fam ❤️🖤💚

This , we’re celebrating athletes who remind us that strength isn’t just measured in medals — it’s measured in courage.

Figure skating champion Alysa Liu, proudly from Oakland, CA, showed the world what real leadership looks like when she stepped away from competition to prioritize her mental health and personal growth. That kind of honesty helps break stigma and empowers the next generation to put wellbeing first. At a time when young athletes face enormous pressure, Alysa’s voice continues to inspire healthier conversations around balance, identity, and life beyond sport. Thank you for helping shift the culture. 💙
