Lincoln Families

Lincoln Families Lincoln is a mental health organization with 13 programs that disrupt cycles of trauma & poverty, empowering kids & families to build strong futures.

Since our founding in 1883 as the first racially integrated orphanage in Northern California, Lincoln Families has impacted the lives of children and families through evolving programs. Today, we provide preventative, individualized and comprehensive support services with a focus on three core areas that disrupt cycles of poverty and trauma:

Education:
Addressing obstacles that impact academic attendance and achievement

Family:
Strengthening stability and creating permanency

Well-Being:
Improving resiliency and wellness

How We Do It
Every day, in communities throughout our region, Lincoln Families is providing real solutions to the unique issues our children, youth and families face. At Lincoln, we go where children and youth are, helping them to develop skills to stay at home and in school. Teams of skilled and diverse staff work together with youth and families to utilize their strengths and build a plan for success. With this critical support, our children, youth and families thrive and build bold futures. Only Lincoln Families has a culturally relevant, adaptive approach that meets the needs of children and families. Our multi-generational model sets a new standard of support that changes lives.

Get • 📕 📖 📚An absolute pleasure to attend Oakland Starting Smart and Strong’s annual symposium today. OSSS is absolutely moving the ball forward for families with children ages 0-5 in our city.

We were honored to facilitate our small group activities, and it was a joy to connect with the many community partners and key ECE stakeholders and educators in attendance - including Mayor Barbara Lee! Salute to the ACOE, OUSD, OLC, SVDH, Tandem, Lotus Bloom, BANANAS, First 5 AC, Afro-Play Oakland, Oakland Public Library, and many others who worked to make this symposium very successful.

Supporting our little ones and families are more important than ever now, and our team at the Mandela FRC in West Oakland remains deeply committed to enhancing this collective vision. đź“•

Happy Black History Month! The 2026 Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” announced by ASALH, honors the 100th anniversary of the first organized national observance of Black history in 1926, celebrating a century of efforts to document and uplift Black life, culture, and achievement.

As we mark this centennial milestone, Black History Month invites us not only to reflect on the past, but to celebrate the living history being shaped every day and to recommit ourselves to carrying this legacy forward with pride, purpose, and joy.

🖤✨ Our West Oakland team visited the Black Spaces: Reclaim & Remain exhibition at the Oakland Museum of California—an incredible experience that deepened our connection to the community we work in and serve. The exhibit highlights the resilience, creativity, and history of Black communities in Oakland and the East Bay, celebrating stories of resistance, belonging, and reclamation of space.

Sharing this moment with our team and families reminded us why being effective community partners means understanding the rich histories and lived experiences of those we support.
