🌱What is scar tissue?
Scar tissue forms in response to injury. Injury is anything which creates dysfunction in the body. We think of this as broken bones, but more often are things like allergies, toxin build up, a minor issue in a joint which never really goes away. The small pains which affect us daily can potentially create long-lasting scar tissue, or fibrosis.
🌱Scar tissue and fibrosis formation is a normal part of life, but they can be reduced to make life much less irritating.
🌱Why does this matter?
Scar tissue puts a stop to movement. And in living organisms, movement is life. Lack of movement causes pain, dysfunction, and destruction.
This can look like allergies, chronic pain, chronic physical, mental, and degenerative disease, and slow healing.
🌱Think about it this way - if your lungs don’t move, you won’t be able to inhale or exhale very well
If your intestines don’t move, you might notice food sensitivity, constipation, or diarrhea
If your joints don’t move as they’re supposed to, you’ll be in constant, chronic pain
🌱Age, injury, disease, and different body structures can all create situations where movement is more difficult. So how can you tell if your pain is due to scar tissue/fibrosis or if this is just how it’s going to be? Ask yourself:
- What makes the pain feel better? If it’s warmth, ice, or massage, or acupuncture, or movement (after the warm up), you most likely have scar tissue causing you pain. Scar tissue is largely reversible, and your pain is optional.
🌱How do I treat scar tissue?
First learn how to identify it! Scar tissue isn't always what we think it is. A fibrosis or scar tissue professional can guide you through how scar tissue shows up in your own body, and how to do basic home treatments.
