About half of the clients I serve in my therapy practice have Alameda Alliance MediCal Insurance. Many of the clients I serve are trauma survivors and/or struggling with mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder and can be at risk for su***de or losing work or housing. I know from experience that supporting folks with therapy can help individuals in SO MANY WAYS. One example is a person I was treating who had suicidal ideation and was a mom. Through therapy we were able to work together to help her get a correct diagnosis, connect her to a psychiatrist, get her on medication that really worked to lesson her depression symptoms and then ultimately she was able to complete a graduate degree, get a great job, and feel herself again. I have the great priviledge of witnessing so many clients heal and find success in their lives. Clients of mine have been able to complete college degrees, follow their goals and passions, and find meaningful employment and ultimatly (hello wake up!) be a contributing member to our capitalist society. I am worried to hear that MediCal funding from the federal government is at risk and may be cut drastically. This article breaks things down on how MediCal receives 2/3 of its funding through Medicaid and what and who is at risk if this gets cut.
